Trying to figure out why my young dog died...

My dog recently passed (on Sunday the 7th) at a very young age of only 4 (just turned it a week before passing). He was a tea cup chihuahua and toy fox terrier mix. He had been having problems for months in his back end (we had taken him to the chiropractor a few times and his hip was out each time and they popped it back in). We took him to a trusted vet a few times and obviously both times he was misdiagnosed, the last time (the tuesday before he passed) with a broken disc (without wanting to do an xray, just diagnosed by feeling). He was put on anti-inflammatory medication and for 2-3 days, he was really good. He had usually been down (as in laying around, not really wanting to do much, crying when attempting to get up) for 2-3 days for the past about 6 months then bounce right back to his normal self. The last time he didn't bounce back until we gave him the pills, then the pills stopped working and he progressively got worse. Saturday we called our local vet (a different one) and due to a terrible snow storm, they had closed. He got up at one point late Saturday night and stumbled, almost falling. He couldn't stand or walk very well. Sunday he woke up and died 4 and a half hours later. Everyone in my family seems to think it sounds like cancer, bone cancer to be specific.
Anyone else have any other possible suggestions?
I know I'll never know for sure since I didn't have the money to have an autopsy and all that stuff done, but at least some help may help me cope.

i almost wonder if he had heart failure, or a brain injury, could of been a deformity from birth, bones do seize up, like his mouth, tell me did he have this look in his eyes like he was saying everything will be ok, let me go, im sorry,

sounds like he had hip displasia, which anti inflamitory did they put him on,

do you remember if he was dehydrated, was his skin stiff??

I should probably add that he hadn't been eating very well until we have him the pills. When the pills started wearing off, he was hungry, but it was like he couldn't eat. He'd pick up dog food then spit it back out. He threw up everything he had in his stomach before this. I was eventually able to get him to eat some chicken Saturday night. He was drinking though. Sunday when he woke up, I tried to give him an aspirin (the vet told us it was okay to do so as long as we didn't give this and the anti-inflammatory medication to him together) and his mouth would not open. I had to give him water through a syringe. When you picked him up, it was like he couldn't hold his body up at all. He could not stand at all, it was like he had no function of his legs.
