Sausage dog

I bought a very sweet 7 months old dog.I treat him very well and love him.The problem is that every time I approach him,he urinates on himself! Once I start playing with him and touch him he never urinates. This happens only when I  approach him the first time.He does that all day long! I don't know what to do anymore! Will he outgrow this habit? Please help!!

Yes Kitty you are right! he is a bundle of nerves! I already took him to the vet and he said that most probably the dog has a submissive attitude exactly like Jaybay and Peekawho said.I thank you Kitty for taking the time to answer my question.

Sausage dogs are a nervy little breed but they usually grow out of it,but just to be sure maybe you should call the vet and just about it.excitement could even be a factor.

You have a very insecure dog on your hands who needs a confidence boost.  The peeing is a sign of submission.  He is trying to tell you that he sees you as a strong pack leader and is kind of beating you to the punch.  "Don't be mad at me!  I'm a good dog!  See - I'm even peeing so you'll know it for certain!"

This behavior is not necessarily something he will grow out of.  As he matures, there are things you can do to help him gain some confidence with you and the rest of the world.  The most important thing is to get him out of your house and yard on daily walks.  The more exposure he has to world at large with you in charge as his pack leader, the more confident he will become.

Don't be surprised if he acts fearful at every car that comes along, or even every leaf that blows by him.  Just keep yourself calm and keep moving forward.  If you show fear about anything (even another dog) then you will only confirm to him that the world is a scary place.

When you go for walks, keep the leash fairly short and don't allow him to go in front of you - that is a dominant position for a dog.  From what you write, I doubt he'll try it anyway though.  If he acts fearful, the worst thing you can do is baby him.  That just reinforces his idea that there really IS something to be afraid of.  Keep a steady pace and always keep moving forward.  Of course, let him sniff around and pee if he needs to, but the idea of The Walk is to expand his knowledge of the world and get him to to look to you for confident leadership.  If you have to mentally put yourself in the role of Queen Elizabeth or Arnold Schwarzenegger, then do it!

It'll take some time and lots of walks to see his self-confidence improve, but it's a very worthwhile investment - for both of you.  :-)

This is more than likely submissive urination.  Here's an excellent article, and you can google the term "submissive urination" to find many more.
