Any Ideas

My lab mix just recently came out of heat a little over 2 weeks ago.  She did get "hung up" during her heat cycle while I was in the house changing my baby's diaper.  I was not gone more than 10 minutes!  She was on her chain in the yard.  We do not know if she is able to have puppies.  We were told she was fixed when we brought her home, but it turns out she was not.  We have had her for over a year and this was the first time she has had a cycle.  So I am guessing now she is not fixed.  She is around 8 years old.  She was an abandoned dog.  My fiance's mother took her in, and had her for 4 years - at that time the vet estimated she was 3 years old.  Her name is Chrissy.  Chrissy was an outside dog then.  Since we adopted her she has stayed in the house.

Here's my question.  The last couple of days she has had 3 accidents in the house.  She has urinated on the floor twice and even pooped on the floor last night.  She has NEVER had an accident in the house.  We have left her in our home for 2 days (during an emergency) without having an accident.  The second time she urinated on the floor she had just come in from going outside.  The urine was very smelly.  If I had to describe it I would say it smelled like she at ate a lot of brussel sprouts.  She is 8 and has never been pregnant.  I am wondering if she may be expecting now.  I really don't think that she had ever been hung-up (sorry I don't know what other word to use) before this heat.

I keep hearing she is too old to have puppies.  I know something is not right with her.  We called the vet and they said as long as she is eating, drinking, and has not had a change in her stool that there should be no cause for concern.  She feels that her hormones may still be out of wack causing her to act like this.  It's awfully strange.

Anyone have any ideas of what may be going on?

I agree with Sue.  This could be a bladder infection.  Or, if she DOES still have her uterus, she could have a mild uterine infection of some sort.

I'm surprised the vet didn't want to check the urine sample.   Usually strong smelling urine is an indication of a bladder infection.
She could definately still get pregnant.

My female dog has 'you-know-what's' (!) with her 'boyfriend'. He's been neutered so she can't get pregnant. I let them get on with it. But once, after their session, she peed on the floor. She was not happy about that, as she is naturally fastidious, and would NEVER EVER go in the house. I knew something was wrong, so took her, along with a pee sample to the vet. It turned out she had cystitis. A short course of Amoxycillin cleared it up fine, and there's been no recurrence.
Don't know if this could be the same thing with your dog. But she got this after having sex.
