My dog Had a stick of grass In Genital Penile

He is a boston terrier around 7 or so pm He was humping a giant winnie the pooh bear. I does this often However It was covered in grass Dry grass And i Called them inside to close the door And Noticed the Stick It was around 4 inches Long Maybe 2  2 1/2'' was inside of his foreskin i guess thats what you would call It  After I removed It I Returned to Dishes and Noticed My other dog sniffing His penis, so Again i call him to me clean  my hands to inspect It a little closer. And It looks like he has a Scratch, Now I know this hurts Him, he was doing his best To tolerate My Inspection But I am sure there are a few loose Pieces of grass In there no more sticks. I know it is common for dogs to Get penis Stuck And unable to retract back in. I Also Know To try lube Ky or something and try sugar. For swelling I dont know how to Go about getting this grass out when he was a year or two old he was hospitalized for a much worse Problem like this But i am afraid that if i don't get the grass out it will get infected , Does anyone have any advice or instructions to try at home. I Have no problem taking him to the Vet But its late and they are closed. I Know there are ERs but the fees are outrageous. I have tryed lube Not yet sugar i am scared it may burn since there is a scrape, Has not retracted yet. I pulled a part of grass out but is dry and broke. I dont want him to bite me he is doing his best no cooperate with me but it hurts. Please respond if you HAve any information regarding caring for this. Thanks A Worried MOMMY

I'm sorry to hear that it was serious enough that he had to stay, but I have to say you are a GREAT dog mom!  If more people shared your attitude toward their pets there would be a lot fewer pets in the desperate situations they are in these days.

I hope everything goes well. I will keep good thoughts for him.  He sounds like a very special little guy!

I think it was smart of you to delay the vaccinations for a bit, not only for the financial reasons, but also because it IS a strain on his body being anesthetized so it's best, IMO, to wait until he is himself again before challenging his immune system.

In the meantime, try to have a good what's-left-of-the-weekend.  Please post back and give us an update when you know something.

He is not home tonight they are Releasing him in the morning They said he is due for all his vaccinations He last had them in july 2009 I. And asked if i wanted to get them now I told them no Because no 1 I dont really  have the money, WIth his Weekend appt And His Anasteshia Are Without meds 180 So I Should Wait And most Of all i am afraid they Should not do That many Other vaccienes with being put to sleep it seems to me it would be best to fix his immiediate needs now in case of any complications I was very Sad for leaving him there I wont know much until I hear back I Am so concerned he is my best friend And a Part of this family just the same as one of my own. Also A financial Worried I did not think it would be this much I thought this would be All out the door total so, This was no option of coarse I am responsible for him If it was me In any kind of trouble or sickness He would do the same. Back in 2009 4th of July we had a BBQ and a neighbrohood kid lit off a fire cracker in my gate with no Warning And My kids were playing And my dog looked around for my kids and As soon as he realized the were not far he bolted and shook It was it was on fire his poor face was burned He fully recovered. I Was so upset and superised how he thought nothing of himself he didnt know it was ok He thought my kids were in danger. PLEASE PET OWNERS TREAT YOUR PETS HOW THEY WOULD YOU, so many are not cared for And so often even good pet owners forget about there feelings. We choose them not the other way around. sacrfices somtimes need to be made. Thanks  Ghilly for your support

I am anxious to see what the vet had to say.  Do you have an update for us yet?  I am hoping that everything turned out well for you.

My Primary vet was There Luckily And She said to bring him by in the morning, I have Set him up on a bed i made on the couch, and he is sleeping  , He does not seem to be in severe pain but dogs are known to hide pain. I Will take him first thing. Just to be safe they had to put him to sleep Last time. But it was much worse. I Hope I caught it in time, so there wont be any  long term complications. Should i try sugar. I forgot to mention to her if it would be a good idea to try, i just told her if it was a Emergency or if I could be seen in the morning. I Will keep him close and keep them separated. I am sure that will only make it worse I will checking periodically throughout the night for any Reply's thanks for your quick Comments. I Keep you updated Keep us in your prayers thanks.

If the grass doesn't work its way out by morning, call the vet and tell them what happened.  Most vets have Saturday hours, even if only until noon or 1:00, so I would get up early and call.  If he feels it's something that he needs to see him for, he'll tell you to bring him in.  Otherwise, he may just tell you what to look for in the way of signs of trouble and tell you that it can go until Monday on the chance that it will work its own way out.  Also, depending on how bad the scratch is that he gave himself, if a vet tech isn't able to hold him still enough for the vet to work on him, they may have to give him a light anesthesia to make him sleep so that they can work on him without him squirming around.  It IS a sensitive area, so for obvious reasons they are going to have to be gentle and careful while cleaning it.

Just keep him quiet tonight and don't let the other dog keep messing around with him until you can have him seen.   Please post back and let us know what the vet said when you talked to him.
