preventing aspiration

My four and a half month old english bulldog pup has just come down with his second case of aspiration pneumonia within the last 6 weeks.  Both times it occurred after he threw up.  These are the only times since I had the pup that he has thrown up (got him at 8 weeks old).   Does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this from occurring again?  It is a big financial burden(about 2grand every incident)  and other than these incidents he is a very healthy pup.  The doc suggested that we moisten his kibble prior to giving it to him.  Doc also suggested smaller feedings more frequently during the day and also suggested giving him pepcid with each meal.  If anyone knows any other suggestions it is greatly appreciated!  Thank you in advance.

Pepcid helped one of my bulldogs a lot, and my APBT Pumpkin is now on it and doing well.  It greatly cuts down on the vomiting from reflux.  If your bully has an overly elongated soft palate (which is somewhat common) this can contribute as well.  There is surgery to correct that.  I never had to do it, but I have known people that had it done for their bullys and it went well.
I thought I had been through everything possible with my 4 bullys, but I never had to deal with aspiration.  I hope things go better for you and you bully!   They are great dogs but sure can be 'high-maintenance' lol!

Hi

Unfortunately, despite appearences, bull breeds tend to have very sensitive tums. I would look at the diet you are feeding. Make sure it is premium, wet if possible or wet the dry food. Bullies should have at least 2 meals a day, preferable 3. Another option is to spread the food over a floor, so he has to 'graze' the food (combats boredom also) if you are not feeding premium dry, the food can massively swell in his stomach, making him throw up and worst case scenario, causing blat. Soak one of his meals for 12 hours and see how much it swells. Cheap stuff can swell almost 3x the orignal amount!!

Small, wet meals are the best way to keep any dog but especially gorgeous little bullies healthy.
