what kind of puppy is it and how old... I agree with lonely mom on taking him/her to vett an get rid worms...
I just wanted to also add that, after researching roundworms, I found out that they are really common in puppies because they can be absorbed through the placenta and breastmilk. So, if Mom has worms, baby has worms.
Congrats on the puppy! We got our first 6 weeks ago, and are about to add our second in a few more weeks (she won't be ready to come home until after christmas).
1. Your puppy is still really little. When Cal (our dog) was new he would poop several times a night in his crate. It took him a few weeks to stop that. Think of it as you would a human infant. Newborns poo a lot, several times a day, but as they grow they go less frequently. This is the same for a puppy. As he grows his bowel movements will become less frequent.
2. He might have diarrhea because of the change in lifestyle. You know- being taken away from mom to a new home causes a lot of stress on puppies. I am sure this will pass.
3. One adult worm can lay up to 100000 eggs a day (our vet told us this). Even after a puppy is given deworming medication it can still take up to a month for all the worms & eggs to come out. After that your dog should be given medicine each month to prevent worms anyway. (THis is the advice our vet gave us when we had our dewormed). Just make sure to be clean, wash hands, vaccume & mop frequently because the eggs are spread via feces.
Ok first, I just ended up with 7 very wormy puppies and the worms came out alive before I wormed them. Feel of his belly if it is hard as a rock and he moans when you pick him up then he needs to be wormed.
I have had a breeder promise me a puppy was wormed so I didnt' and the puppy died of worms. So please take him and have him wormed. Once the pup is wormed you will see worms in the poop but they will be dead.
Second, the pooping in the crate is because he has diareha and the diareha isn't because of feeding but the worms. Once you resolve this you will see a difference in him pooping in the crate.
He probably can't control the diarhea and that is why he is going in his crate. I've never had a puppy with worms. I don't know if they normally come out alive or not.
Have you taken your puppy to the vet for a checkup?? Is he up to date on his shots?
