strange sounds

My 10 year old lab is in the final stages of cushings disease. She has started a couple days ago making a (purring) sound off and on. Now the sound is louder but still off and on. What is this that is happening? We are worried.

Does she act like she's having trouble breathing? Is she restless, especially when trying to sleep? Is she panting a lot? How is her eating and drinking? Is she eating more or less than normal? How about urinating? Is she having more accidents?

I don't know if it's a normal symptom of Cushings or not but I know my dog would snore and breath loudly those last few months before he died. Difficulty breathing can also indicate congestive heart failure.

Is your dog on any meds? I think it would be a good idea to go ahead and take her in and discuss this latest symptoms with your vet and see if they can find a way to make her more comfortable, if you feel she's uncomfortable.

Please let us know how she's doing and if anything new happens. I had a dog with Cushings and I know how difficult it is towards the end. My heart and prayers go out to you. God bless!

The sounds that she makes is when she breathes. I spoke with her Dr. yesterday and he said that it does not sound like fluid. He thinks that it is her airway having some kind of spasms. The muscles in her throat are not working properly. The fix would be surgery and she is not a candidate. She is only eating chicken and rice and drinking very little.  this is hardest thing that we have ever done. She is our first family pet. Our heart is breaking.  Thanks for responding . It really means alot.

You know when i read your cry for help my heart ached for you .We love our dogs like they are are human members of our family and I know why    THEY ARE  they give so very much and wanting nothing in return except our love.They become what we can only dream of, they put that into reality.

All we can do is tell them how much we love them in times like this talk to them with all the love we feel ......and as they feel that love... it gives them  comfort and calm.

The best thing you can do is to get another dog to ease your loss when it comes.Not only for your sake but for that new soul that will come into your life at least there is another dog that will be loved and cared for the whole of its life.

They will never take the place of your girl but enhance your life as she would want for you.
And do you know they become another extension of where you are at now.
The knowledge you have gained over the years  through having this Angel in your life will show in another dog, it will be an interesting journey to see the lessons you have learnt from your wonderful girl and it will make it so very worthwhile.

And you know in your heart ! this is what she would want you to do as it is a celebration of  of her life . That way she will always be with you.

I'm sorry to hear they can't do anything then. :( Just love her and keep her comfortable as long as you can. She will let you know when it's her time to cross the Rainbow Bridge.

Dogs are beautiful spirits who have true souls, and have a place beyond this World. If I hadn't seen it myself I might not be ready to believe it and think it was sentimentality. But when my last dog passed on I had a number of dreams of him running free and happy in beautiful fields with many other dogs, having such wonderful fun. He saw me, ran to greet me, licked my face, and then was away! Running again, playing in those beautiful landscapes.
At the time I had never heard of the Rainbow Bridge. I was devastated by losing him. All I could focus on was his last illness. I asked God to show me what the truth was.
That is what I saw, anyway.

OMG That is the sweetiest thing that i have ever heard. I have also prayed to god that show me also. I think that he just did. I have never heard of th Rainbow Bridge but it sounds amazing.  Thank you and God Bless!

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

chocolateladyjaden1999, I made a journal a long time ago when I went on a quest to find out more if our animals friends do indeed go to heaven when they died. I always believed it since God loves ALL his creation. Why wouldn't He then want animals in heaven? Anyway, I looked up a lot and came up with a journal about do animals go to heaven. There were many scriptures that seem to back up that idea.

If you want to view that journal, you can either go to my profile and look through my journals or I can try to pull it up again so that it will be on the sidebar and easier for you to see. If you still have trouble seeing it I can sent it to you in a private message, I think. It is rather long but I could try to do that.

I have found your wonderful journals.The story of your precious Willow made me cry. We are seeing a different look in Jadens eyes. She looks like she is getting tired. We will not let her suffer. I fear that the end is near. This is the hardest thing . I just thsank God that Jaden waited until Logan(only child) got home. He joined the Air Force Reserve and has just got home 1 month ago . We drove Jaden all the way to Texas to see him on July 4. He was missing his girl. She had almost died two weeks earlier. We bought her as a gift for him. So thankful that he is here to be withher in the end.

I feel for you, our dog died of Cushings, too.  Ours didn't make the noise yours did, but your lucky in the fact that yours will still eat, give her anything she wants and will eat.  Cushings is a horrible disease for the dog, and for the owner to see the dog live with it is so hard.   I'm sorry for you and your girl.
