i think it can. i have problems with dizziness (not true vertigo) and pressure in my head radiating from my sinus area. it seems to be worse when "air fronts" and storms pass over. maybe air pressure changes affect people with sinus congestin issues. can anyone confirm this??

Yes the weather definitely does cause what appears to be sinus pressure. My friends begin to laugh at me and ask me how the weather is going to be because I get terrible heads during weather changes - usually from cold to hot or hot to cold. I normally suffer the most during the hotter months may - september. My head gets so bad that I find it terribly hard to concentrate and always get dizzy. I am on here because I had the worst one yet a few days ago that is causing me to feel constantly dizzy. I can feel the pressure around my face and especially more when breathing through my nose. One find it hard to sleep and walk around and have never had the dizzyness for so long. Usually it lasts for an hour or three or maybe a night but this has lasted for three days now. It occurred on an especially warm day and at the end of that it got signifcantly cooler. WIthin an hour I almost fell over with the dizzy feeling and it made me worry to death all that night causing me to almost have a panic attack. I have suffered with it for many years and it runs in my family (my mum has it as well but in different ways)  and have managed to live with it because usually the doctors dont seem to care or dont understand how bad it makes me feel. For pretty much 1 month of the year I am useless to my employer because I cant concentrate at all. But just to finish where I started, I recognised the weather patterns a long time ago causing my congested heads so in my opinion this definitely is a cause. At times I thought of getting into mediccine and specialising in this area because we seem to be the lost cause of the medicine world. Its hard for them to understand so they basically forget about it.

I have always had some of the pressure with head aches but I wanted to sympathise withLandoman as I am struggling with Allergys and Hives and have found the same lack of Knowledge and caring from any Medical Doctors in my area , and on reading many posts it is very prevelant, actually for me it is even worse I have had several misdiagnoses that have been scary, I am going the Natural Route for anything I get wrong now including research online and I feel better, for it.

today the weather was especially humid and i felt head pressure and dizziness that made me walk like a drunk. again, not true vertigo, more like the feeling you get in a head rush but without the wooziness, everything just looks kinda spacy and unstable. also i got this weird sensation like i was on an elevator going up and down quickly or on a boat in choppy water. it was like the floor beneath me would give out then suddenly jolt upward as i walked. i had to sit down it got so bad. is anyone familiar with that?

I got this problem too! My family said in the beginning when it was dark wheater: "well, everybody got bad days". But I can prove it 100% now because the equation: bad weather or changes = pressure in "frontal sinus", happens all the time, and hate it.

I have been dealing with Vertigo off and on now for 6 months. I have notice or have learned my body signals in regards to this condition. I get the vertigo symptoms when the clouds are are high numbers and the barometric pressure is going up right up to when it just pours and then it subsides and goes away. Don't panic people its probably something your body is starting to   react to in response to things like medications, medication withdrawls, depression, anxieties, diet and lack of sleep. I realized its something that could be around with me for a long time or rest of my life randomly. Its just how your body and mind responds to daily life pressures. Learn to chill out and not dwell on the condition, eat healthy, get enough sleep (this one is very important because I noticed when I burn the candle at both ends the vertigo problems pop up) Take care of your mind, body, and soul and I promise the episodes of vertigo will be far less or non existent. This vertigo condition tends to affect older people rather than the younger people. I'm 50 this past June oh well such is life.

Just don't let it consume you and focus on having a happy life, good diet if you can, quality sleep, and take allergy meds when the clouds and pollen come around. Good luck and God bless everybody.

Yup, the weather changing definitely causes it for me. Usually when it goes from sunny to rainy and vice versa... When there's a big change. Last week I woke up in the morning and everything was spinning. It felt like my bed was rolling, awful vertigo. I sat up and it went away after a while. Still felt spacy and pressure all day, but no vertigo. I realized it had rained that night after months of sunny warm weather, so that was likely the cause. I can feel pressure behind my eyes and am slightly off balance still, and it's been a week now. I use a net pot, run a humidifier at night (room seems too dry), and tried a decongestant. Still, every time I lay down and turn to the right, I'm getting vertigo. It makes it hard to sleep! I keep rolling to my left accidentally and waking with a jolt as the world spins. Awful. I'm trying to sleep propped up with pillows, but it's not working well. I hope it fades soon! I haven't

I'm sure I am single-handedly destroying my liver. I take Advil Cold and Sinus for nonstop headaches due to barometric pressure changes caused by weather.  The ear pain is also unbearable. I wish someone could figure out a cure.

been going for years to doctors with no help at all. they do not understand or know how to treat my ailments. right now I am suffering from sinus pressure, tiredness and even got my first vertigo attack while away in the Caribbean last winter. I feel nauseous dizzy, and its making me feel like I want to panic. I have no quality anymore, as there are constant weather changes these days, and I know that's my problem. Boy do I need help.

It's taken a few years, but I have finally made the connection as well :When the barometric pressure dives/  the change in the weather, makes for extreme ear pain, dizziness, with sometimes upset stomach and over all icky feeling. Once the weather stabelizes, my ears will feel better, meanwhile the transition is very uncomfortable.

The weathers been so off this winter...

I have vertigo and migraines and seasonal allergies and the weather fronts coming through the central U. S. are another factor that I'm constantly dealing with.  Those of us with these problems all agree that these weather patterns make our conditions worse.  Is there anywhere on the planet where the weather is more stable and we might be more comfortable/have a better quality of life?

Hi,

May I know what "natural route" are you taking. My mom also has this problem and she does not want to take anymore meds because of her age.

Been suffering from barometric and sinus pressure for seven years now... I am 50 years old and I am worried that this might grow old with me, then I won't have enough strength and energy to manage the pain :(
Whenever I feel like I am going to have the pressure-- like somebody's hand is pushing your head down, I immediately take meds for sinus pressure and 2 anti-pain relief tablets and pray that it will prevent the pressure. The medicine usually relieves me from pain... but when I forget to take the meds, or neglect to take the meds, then I am useless and helpless for the rest of the day... I feel pockets of air in my head, and the pain is so excruciating, like... my head will explode any minute... then I pray and pray...

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that suffers from this. I'm awake in the middle of the night struggling with a right ear that feels clogged. I go to my ear guy every six months to have them cleaned out so I'm pretty sure going to a doctor wouldn't tell me anything. It seems to be worse when it's raining and while reading this, I'm glad I'm not crazy. I've always felt headaches with the rain and now it's turned into the right ear feeling plugged. Advil seems to make it go away, eventually, but of course it's still 3 am and I'm wide awake because of it. Thank you all for helping me see that I'm not alone or crazy. I've joined medhelp because of reading this and finding it so helpful.

usually toward the end of summer, whenever cooler dry air moves into nj i get light headed and full blown nauseas sometimes. i'm 54 and a lifetime of bad sinus trouble. the only thing that helps is when i feel it coming on to rest and eat light for a couple days to let my body adjust. any doctor i mention this to says they don't know of any connection but considering that our sinus passages lead to the inner ear which controls balance it makes sense to me.

Just wondered how you were doing. I live in Ontario, Canada and I think your weather is similar to mine. I start with a dizzy spell. Then huge pressure starts in my cheeks, nose and eyes. My left ear then plugs as well as my left nostril. This leaves me off balance and just feeling blah.......
It does not matter what season it is as this is a daily thing. I was wondering if you experience any of this. Weather is certainly a trigger, but I seem to be worse when it is sunny out when there are no clouds
Any thought?

Since this website is called Med Help, it would be good to hear from more people about the feedback they have had from doctors or specialists (ENT) regarding what might help this condition.  I have had allergies all my life.  This means that my sinuses are usually closed, causing more frequent sinus infections.  When the barometric pressure changes, the sinus infection causes a plugged up ear and bad headaches that might go on for 2-3 days non-stop.  The changes also cause other pains throughout my body that make me miserable. Doctors have not been of any help and I am nearly 60. If we go from cold weather to warm or visa-versa, meaning a high pressure front or low pressure front moves in, I know it immediately and fell awful.  It would be great to see a doc, or somebody who had had good advice from one, comment in this thread.

I am laying in bed right now and feel like my ear drums should be bleeding... Severe pressure feelings all over like what I imagine divers experience when rising to quickly... Sinus's opening and shutting, dizzy, naseous, pain all over, back spasms all just hit in the last 2/hrs....was at grandsons b-day then BOOM, Im sick and exhausted and outside it clouds up and I HAVE to get home to my bed immediately. I've had this progressive barometric sickness for the past 2-3 yes but today is the worst by far for facial pain sinus and ear pain....in cold weather my joints feel like they are being pulled apart. Ear dr that I saw one time (when weather was dry and warm) was more interested in signing me up for unrelated testing than determining what causes this ear pain, etc...was cagey telling me with a grin it's not ear infection and come to him when I have this hit me again...today I found out I'm not the only one suffering with this but no one seems to have help...my arthritis dr wants to treat everything as fibromyalgia....:-(........
I have not found anyone with good advice i am just shouting out to let u know that u r not alone and i too suffer year round.. I am on my fourth ENT and this one seems a little more knowledgeable r at least he was more empathic. If he give me any thing i will let u know. With all the cloudy hot and humid days we have been exproencing the last couple of days on the east coast , it has been rough

I'm so sorry we are all going through this...I can definitely relate, as I have been dealing with this for a couple years now. Most recently, it has gotten very very bad to the point that I cannot stand for very long periods of time, and that's not good because it's kind of what I do for a living. I'm 36 years old, I've been to two neurologists,an ENT, and an allergist all to tell me that everything has come back negative.I've had 2 MRIs..all negative. I feel like you can set your clock to me for me to tell you it will rain. I get tremendous head pressure, sensitivity to light, severe dizziness, and my whole body feels as its been "electrified", so to speak.I have pins and needles in my arms, shoulders, and legs. I see spots in my vision. I've told the doctors it is definitely weather-related and they just look at me weird and tell me to take an NSAID. Ibuprofen helps, but it messes with blood pressure, so it's a catch-22. it really ***** especially since I live here in South Florida, as it rains ALLLL the time! HUGE tropical storm/hurricane state. I've been trying to research barometric pressure headaches and I've not really found many answers or hope, just hundreds of poor people having similar symptoms. I agree that the symptoms almost seem to vanish after it has rained, and I do feel some relief. Like another person has posted on here, I tend to feel better staying away from refined sugar and simple carbs (and really gluten altogether). I've noted that before the headache begins, I seem to have small bursts of panic. It's really odd.
If there's one thing I can recommend, it's to take magnesium. It helps a bit as well, and of course to stay hydrated. Praying we find answers soon....healing energies to you all

Sorry you are suffering too. I'm 69 years old and could predict the weather since I was 18. Symptoms were, headaches, light sensitivity, couldn't focus, drugged feeling,  spacey, stuffed nose, clogged ears, lethargy and sleeping all day . it ruled my life. Every doctor you can think of has seen me. I got every answer from lose weight to house wife boredom. I used to live in NJ until 1981. It was worse there than here In southern California. Obviously it rained more in New Jersey. But when the clouds and barometric pressure start here, usually in May June and December to February I get it just as bad. Weirdly enough, the Santa Ana winds here actually make me feel better because they are so dry. One doctor here gave me prednisone for 10 days. It was like a miracle and all the symptoms went away. However, you can't live taking a steroid for the rest of your life. I went to an allergy doctor and I wasn't allergic to anything not even dust or mold. So when he saw I wasn't allergic to anything and it happened usually during combinations of humidity and barometric pressure changes he diagnosed me with what they call vasomotor rhinitis. Basically what he said it is, when the weather and temperature change your nose can pick up toxins in the air more readily. So he said I don't have allergies it's just sensitivities to fumes, some odors, smog etc. He gave me 2 nasal sprays to use twice a day. One is Pantanase and the other Nasonex. Took about 2 weeks to kick in but the symptoms were 80% gone for the last two years.  Hallelujah! Then my insurance wouldn't pay for brand name sprays anymore. Had to get generic.  Well, they don't do the job. So I'm back to square one.  Generics should be regulated more. Idiots. I will have to fight for brand. Hope this is a little help.
