Intense pressure and no pain in nose and eyes

I have been suffering with intense pressure in my head mainly between the eyes and bridge of nose for 3 weeks.  I have been to the er 3 times, admitted once for 3 days, and have gone to an ent 2x as well as my primary care 4 times.  I had a negative lumbar puncture and chest xray.  All blood work has now returned to normal, however I have had a low grade temp from 99-100 for 3 weeks.  CT scan of sinuses say normal except for a concha bullosa on the right medium turbinate.  The ent is not impressed that this along with my deviated septum is what is causing the pressure.  Can it be?  When the ent looked at the scan he said there was a small are of grey in my left ear mastoid, but that would not be causing problems either.  My mri showed a 6mm pineal cyst without compression or hydrocephalus.  THat is all that is showing that is abnormal.  Any ideas as to what could be causing this are greatly appreciated.  I am suffering and need to get back to work!  I do not have any other symptoms. Thanks

I understand your frustration.  I have gone to a ton of doctors as well.  I have similar sinus symptoms.  I can tell you, from my experience, that a lot of these guys are clowns.  They don't know how to think outside the box and get to the bottom of a situation thats atypical.  Don't be afraid to keep searching for a doctor until you find someone.  If you have an insurance plan that lets you go out of network and are near a major metropolitan center, perhaps theres someone at a teaching hospital that can help.

Just curious...have you ever tried Ibuprofen or Sudafed for the pressure?  If so, did it help?

Oh and BTW, I have seen 3 different ER doctors, 2 ENTS, 1 opthamologist, the attending Dr and her staff during my 3 night hospital stay, and a neurologist.  NO ONE knows a thing!

Hello all,
As an update..I had MRI's and CT scans that showed what I stated above.  The ENT said that the concha bullosa of the middle turbinate or the deviated nasal would be causing any of my problems. He also said I did NOT have a sinus infection.  The pressure was also at times behind my eyes, so I even had my eyes checked with dilation, and again nothing was found. The pressure seemed to move around in my head, but never abated for 6 weeks-I could not work, and layed on the couch in between my 3 night hospital stay and 3 visits to the ER.  It just seemed to slip away as the time went on, but take notice, that I was very, very ill and unable to do anything but lay on the couch. The doctors did nothing for my problem and had no idea what it was.  I have had 2 times since November where the pressure has come back, but it only lasted about an hour.  I am scared to death to not know what it is as I want to know what to avoid, if possible.  Thanks for the posts!

I am not totally sure, but I think it is possible to have a sinus infection and not see it on a CT scan.  I believe that CT Scans will only show mucosal thickening which may not happen initially.  The low grade fever certainly suggests a possible infection of some sort.

You didn't mention it in your post, but have they tried you on a course of antibiotics?  You should also ask your doctor about nasal irrigation.

Also, don't be afraid to get a second opinion from another ENT.

Best of Luck.

Thank God you are not having anything of significance in CT or MRI. The concha bullosa of the middle turbinate or the deviated nasal septum, may be the reason, as your ENT feels. One can say this for sure only after 'surgery' for the same.

Your low grade fever is not explained, though.

The other option is to wait and see, as the CT and MRI are okay.

Best,

Thomas Antony
