Quite. This can be remedied with good hydration and rest, generally. For some, having some speech therapy to learn how to use the voice more efficiently can be very helpful.
Hi,
Your problem seems to be a common problem with the singers, who are the victims of voice abuse. The reasons being:
1. Problems with voice modulation causing vocal cord dysfunction and swelling of the vocal cords
2. Formation of nodules over the vocal cords hampering the speech
3. Laryngo pharyngeal reflux - secondary to your Acid reflux
Hence, try with voice rest initially; along with steam inhalation (this will reduce the edema of the vocal cords).
Drink plenty of warm water; avoid oily foods/ chilled items/ coffee and tea.
Practice voice modulation when you have to use high pitch and give rest to the vocal cords as frequently as possible.
If there is no improvement even after this treatment then consult a phono-surgeon/ ENT surgeon.

No, it isn't normal. You should find a good voice teacher and work with them on your technique. It sounds like you might be singing too much in your middle voice instead of your head voice. That is very hard on the vocal cords and needs correcting. Of course there are medical conditions you might want to be checked for as well, like acid reflux and vocal cord dysfunction.
