Low potassium?

Hi, I've been living with bulimia for nearly three years now and two weeks ago was struck down with a strange feeling of what I can only describe as "wobbly" weak-feeling legs, and also just a general weakness in my body.  It is as if my legs are detached from the rest of my body.  This made me feel dizzy, and anxious of going out in case I might fall.  Two weeks and several blood tests later my doctor tells me I have low potassium and has put me on  "Slow-K" tablets, which slowly release extra potassium into the body.  I've been instructed to take these (3 a day for three days and 1 a day therefater) and to go back to see my doctor in 5 days time.  It's been my first day of taking them and there's no improvement so far but that's probably (hopefully) just because I haven't been on them for long enough.  I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had similar symptoms/ been told that they have low potassium and/ or been prescribed "Slow-K."  Could you let me know if these helped at all, and how long they took to start working.  Any responses would be really helpful as I'm so down and worried about this thing that's happening to me.  Thanks x

your welcome   that drink seems similar to gatorade so i would get some:)   yeah your glands are prob rather swollen from  the purging.     having an eating disorder is very hard  all we wish for is to wake up and be normal  but the truth is   we have to work so much harder  because our drug of choice is food  and we need it to survive so its extremely difficult.   and just so you know i doubt toast and hummous will make you gain any weight  :)    and any weight gain you do see is just water weight  try not to be too hard on yourself  and if you do fail   then you can only try harder the next day.   if you ever need somene to talk to  just send me a msg   xxxx

Hiya, thanks for replying.  Don't think we have gatorade in the UK but we have a similar kinda thing (I think) called Lucazade.  My Nan's been telling me to get some this past week.  I don't seem to have the swelling thing, apart from arond my neck glands which I think has to do with the saliva glands being overworked due to the mia.  Just so down at the minute, had a binge-free night tonight because my lovely doctor told me to "please try and not be sick over the weekend." Feel so pathetic and fat - even tho' I seem to not have gained too much from actually eating "dinner" tonight, which was two slices of toast and some hummous.  I know I'll have gained in the morning because I've had about a bottle of wine to try and cheer myself up/ distract myself from food.  I hope it's going to get better and I just need to be patient.  I must say, I've found this forum so helpful - first time I've used it but peoples' reponses and posts are very reassuring and helpful ... Thanks again x
