Pain after laparoscopy

I wondered if anyone who had had a laparoscopy could tell me how long it hurt for.

I still feel quite alot of pain when walking after a week and wondered if that is normal, as everywhere I read that people resume normal activities after a couple of days.

I am not doubled up or anything, its just like having a constant stitch, and when i take a step, especially around my belling button there is a kind of sharp tugging pain. Also some stabbing pains too that just seem to happn even when sitting still.

Just wanted to know if this is usual, I expcet it is, but thought I would ask others who had had similar, who might tell me how long until the abdomen feels normal again.

Thanks

I had my Laparoscopy on 27th Feb, I went to see my GP who referred me for an ultrasound scan, the results of this scan identified cysts on both ovaries so I was the referred to a Gynaecologist, the first Gynae I saw in December said surgical intervention wasn't necessary and scheduled me for a follow up ultrasound. I arrived  for my ultrasound and was lucky enough to see a senior consultant who advised that he did in fact want to perform surgery as the large cyst on my RT ovary showed an echo, he said that he was almost certain this was an indication of Endo and he would like to take a closer look, so a date was set for my Lap, I arrived at hospital and my doctor came to see me prior to surgery to explain what was to take place, I asked if he was going to remove both cysts LT and RT and he said he was more concerned about the RT but would obviously take a good luck at both. Anyway in I went and after approx 2 1/2 hours I was in recovery and then back in my room.

My surgeon came to see me to explain things were not as straightforward as originally expected and that both ovaries were as bad as each other, the ultrasound had only picked up a small cyst on my LT ovary when in fact what had happened is my bowel had fused to my womb and LT ovary hiding what was really there. So he had to free my bowel, take away 2 large cysts from each ovary and laser way my Endo......phew, bless him he was very proud of his work and even showed me the photo's to prove it, not that I had any idea what I was looking at I was that high from the anaesthetic and pain relief...lol

Very interesting and informative though to say the least!

Well anyway I had to stay in overnight as my BP was extremely low and to be fair I felt rough, they put me on an I.V for pain and to hydrate me and also oxygen for about 24 hours until my BP stabilised.

I came home on the 28th early evening with lots of tablets, antibiotics and pain relief.

I haven't really experienced bad gas as others describe or maybe my pain tolerance levels are extremely high? I was already suffering from severe pain in my RT shoulder pre-op which was probably referred pain?

Anyway it's now day 4 and I have had my first BM which I had to take senna to do as I was struggling big time, also passing gas was a bit of a worry as it gives a strange feeling of discomfort, all thankfully getting easier now, can manage the stairs and have been keeping myself mobile by walking around the house for short intervals, all I can manage to be fair....today I have an uncomfortable pain in my LT kidney area? Not entirely sure what this is? Had a rubbish nights sleep and woke up with it, aches when I move even whilst lying down....

Other than this I was feeling quite good until I changed my dressing earlier which made me feel dizzy and nauseous, so I have just had more pain relief and have taken myself back to bed.

Anyone have any idea what this is?

I have my follow up appointment in 8 weeks time, so will update then if not before...

Oops I miss read that. Did they tell you to use a hot water bottle for right after surgery to help with getting the gas out. If so that is the best option. I was thinking for cramps assoc with endo. If it is cramps then use a cold pack.

A hot water bottle is not a good idea as it will increase inflammation. The best is a cold pack. I found it works a lot better.
