worried about leaving an ovary

Hi, I am 39 years old.  My doctor found a chocolate cyst 7cm.  It needs removed.  He also suggest taking my uterus because of fibroids on it(as big as my uterus)  He said it is up to me whether I keep my other ovary.  I am scared to leave my ovary because my aunt has ovarian cancer.  She never had kids so I don't know if that is the reason she got the disease.  No one else in the family has it.  I am afraid to have him take it because then I would be in menopause and have to deal with all the problems with it.  Has anyone ever been in my shoes?  Do you have any regrets leaving a ovary or having him take both out?

Hi. I had endometriosis and tumor on my right ovary and 10 cm chocolate cyst. I had a lap done and my right ovary was removed. I have endo on my left ovary, too. So I had a puncture done (they sucked the cysts and the blood). I took different medications, I experienced menopause for six months (I was taking Zoladex shots) and I am still taking Yasmin pills, untill I decide to try to get pregnant. You are not in menopause if you have just one ovary. With one ovary you can get pregnant and you will have periods, so one ovary can function alone in all non-menopause processes. But, it's different knowing that you have just one ovary left at the age of 23 (in my case) and you don't have children. It's not so pleasent situation, but that's life. Talk to a doctor who is expert in endometriosis, because it' very delicate "disease" and you need a specialist in that area so you can talk to him/her for every possibillity. That's very important!
I hope that everything is going to be ok! Take care!

hi there I am sorry to hear this - I am not quite in the same boat but I currently have chocolate cysts on and inside each ovary of about 3cm I am going to the top professor who will just remove them for me its a hectic operation as they cut open each ovary to get to the growth and stitch up.  I think if they have done a pap on you and its ok then I suggest going to a skilled specialist like me they have done stax of these and have seen lots of cases similar to ours and are used to handling them which a normal Gynie isnt.

Good luck and keep me posted
