EBV?

My ENT Dr thinks I could have EBV let me begin with saying
I found out January 13th that I have a low risk hpv strain along with abdormal cells which was shown in my pap test. I believe i contracted it 10 years ago by one of my big mistakes. I've only been with a few people in my life as I've never been the type to really want to sleep around.  Lets just say I'm in misery although I've had the colcospocy and biopsy with dna test everything came back normal except that I had mild cervicitis which my gyno said it would go away on its own. Thankfully I tested negative for all high risk strains and I have not broken out with anything.  I received the vaccine last year. It's been 2 months and I've been in hell feeling like there is an infection throughout my body I developed walking pneumonia been sick on and off ever since.  I'm getting further testing done by an ent  i was just tested last year and everything was normal and I've been with the same guy for a few years now previous relationship was 10 years. I've had low grade fever on and off since December been having cramps and lower back pain. My throat has a weird burning feeling on and off i had a scope done on my throat everything came back normal .i had a cold sore and I have a  mild cough. I had experienced night sweats and I felt fatigued. My neck hurts where my glands are. I'm praying I'm ok as I've never been sick like this.  I've developed heartburn but that's gone away since I've been taking probiotics. I'm just scared. I'm sure there are more symptoms I'm forgetting. I just don't know what is wrong or if it's the hpv or could this be EBV? I did take 2 rounds of antibiotics chest cray showed I had bronchitis it finally went away after I finished the Biaxin and prednisone. 2 weeks late it all back.

Yes, during this period of high stress and symptoms, its good to keep your body healthy by taking the right supplements , eating well and doing your best to sleep well.

I can totally relate. I have gone through my own health anxiety hell, but I am managing to look after myself by taking probiotic drinks, vit D , vit B complex, iron tablets, coconut oil etc to ensure my body can do its best to fight whatever virus it is fighting.

I hope we both manage to find the answers we are looking for :-)

My symptoms are improving only because I'm on steroids. I know as soon as I'm done taking them I'm going to relapse. There's gotta be other alternatives to treating this.  If this is the only thing causing my symptoms. I'm taking coconut oil now and I'm going to get Melissa Essential Oils. It's expensive but it's suppose to help with viruses.

Dont be worried - why should you be worried, if the doc was not worried?

There is no harm in going to see an infectious disease specialist.

But I recommend getting your docs to print you off your blood results every time you have them taken, so that you know exactly what is going on in your body and can do your own research and can monitor your own health yourself, without having to try to remember doctor's comments.

I'm getting worried.  I just found out pretty much all at once that I have hpv to cervicitis....to having a relapse of ebv... it's making me wonder what is going on for all of this to be happening.  I'm wondering if something is triggering all of this that's more serious ya know?  I'm going to see an infectious disease dr. It's just too much and too painful to live with.

I have high ALT (SGPT) Levels

I have high platelets

A high count for EBV which is mono.

His only concern was for mono.

Dr said my platelets weren't high enough to cause for alarm. I had mono or ebv. I guess I was re-exposed where I work.  I work in the medical field or my body reactivated it due to stress. It's not active now but I still feel sick so I don't know.  From what I read ebv can last for a long time. I also have acid reflux.

Hi Kitkat,

Good to hear that you have normal white and red cell counts.
Normal WBC (white blood count) is a sign of good health. If you had acute mono, your lymphocytes would typically be high - this can mean either above the reference range, or higher than neutrophils. In a healthy person, the highest percentage of WBC's should be neutrophils, followed by lymphocytes, followed by monocytes.
If you had neutropenia or lymphocytopenia (i.e. abornmally low neutrophils or lymphocytes), then you would have reason to be concerned, but good to hear you are not in this position.

The fact that you have normal RBC means that you are not anaemic. Anaemia means you have a lower than normal haemoglobin count, but your RBC's have come back normal, which is god news.

Re: platelets - I am not a doc, but I personally would be more concerned if I had low platelets, i.e. a deficiency.  Regarding the High platelets - what did your doc have to say about this?

I've been reading too much online I think I have hiv to ebv to everything else. Lol I'm going crazy.  But it's just my symptoms that I've never had before are causing this and the fact that I haven't been well going on 3 months.

Today I'm having cold symptoms. I'm on prednisone I think if I weren't on it I'd be way worse.

I don't know what it's caused by. I'm thinking I have everything. It's like once you find out you have one thing you have it all. I was thinking maybe my cervix would be inflamed because ebv is a herpes virus and herpes Can cause you're cervix to be inflamed. But I have not broken out with anything. So it wouldn't really make sense. All I know is that it seems I'm not getting any better.  I woke up this morning sick again and I know there's gotta be some infection in my body causing me to be ill.

Hi Kitkats,
sounds like you are freaking out. Try to calm down and rationalise.

Mono is caused by either EBV or Cytomegalovirus (CMV). These viruses, once they enter your body, never leave. However , after the initial infection (in which you may exhibit several symptoms), they lie dormant for the remainder of your lives, unless they reactivate, which is said to be rare.

You mentioned that you have had mono when you were younger, this means that you will already have EBV or CMV in your body.

What makes you think that your current cervicitis and other symptoms are being caused by EBV?

I did have mono when I was younger. So I don't know.  I've just been not well like this in a long time.  I have an inflamed cervix along with all these crazy symptoms but nothing showed up on my colcospocy nor my biopsy. I'm waiting for my blood work.  I've been really scaring myself.  I know I need to relax but it just seems like one thing after the other. I'll update you.

Sorry for my horrible grammar I'm on my phone and I'm not proofreading before I post.

EBV causes infectious mononucleosis ("mono" or glandular fever), which is an illness which can cause sore throat, swollen cervical glands (lymph nodes in the neck), fever and night sweats. These symptoms occur in the acute phase of  the illness, which normally lasts 2-4 weeks.

If you or your doctor suspect EBV, your doctor should order tests for EBV igM antibodies and igG antibodies.
A positive result for igM indicates you have an acute infection, and this would likely explain several of the symptoms you described.
A positive result for igG, and a negative for igM, means you have been infected with EBV in the past , and you are not in the acute phase now. So EBV would be an unlikely explanation for your symptoms.
A negative result for EBV means you do not have the virus.

Mono is a horrible illness that can persist for longer than the textbooks say, and can present itself in many strange ways.
Let me know how you get on!
