Abdominal swelling after exercise

My husband had an abdominoplasty and liposuction 8 months ago.  He walks 2 1/2 miles a day.
He has terrible abdominal swelling, fluid retention, and feeling such fullness after any exercise.  We cannot explain this.  He is on a very healthy diet, low sodium, low carb, and not super high protein, just well balanced.  This is causing him to be extremely uncomfortable.  Any ideas on how to prevent this, what could be causing this, or what to do to treat it?  He takes hydrochlorothiazide twice daily, 12.5mg and it does help, but not completely.  He drinks lots of water.  We are at a loss, and it is effecting his moods.  He is depressed and upset, especially since he spent all the money to have the surgery. ANY HELP!!!????

Hi,

There can be many causes of fluid retention like dietary deficiency of B1 and proteins, some medications like antihypertensives for high blood pressure, certain diseases of kidney, heart and lungs can cause fluid retention. Also hypothyroidism is another cause.
I would suggest you to consult a physician and get his complete physical examination done, the doctor may also certain blood tests.

Hi jenbjb, how are keeping? Hope your husband is feeling better? Is he still continuing the abdominal exercises? Has he consulted a doctor to and got physically examined? Following surgery the muscle is weak and under undue increase in abdominal pressure, it gives way. He needs to consult a physical therapist to work out on strengthening the muscles and avoid excessive straining too much. Do not lift excessive weight or frequent use of stairs. It is also better to consult a surgeon and get evaluated to rule out any chance of hernia. Take care and share your thoughts.

Hello,
I had a myomectomy (fibroids removed) 9 weeks ago. I just started exercising again 3 weeks ago. I noticed that whenever i overdo it a little my tummy swells up. It also happens when i overdo it standing around at a party or walking for too too long (2 hours).
A friend of mine commented, oh that is just like my knee surgery, for about a year after whenever i overdid it it would swell.
So, i think we just have to take it slow and not push ourselves too hard on the exercise. The muscle is sensitive and healing and will react when made to work harder than it feels able.
I keep depression away by knowing that in a year it will be better if i am kind to my body.
I have hashimotos and for the last  year have been on thyroid meds. Well, it took about a year for my body to start looking better. So i just realize that change doesn't happen instantaneously.
What is hydrochlorothiazide?
I think brufen helps my swelling go down too.
