Alternative Cardio Exercise

I am having trouble with coming up with an alternative cardio workout.  I have vertigo and I would normally jump on the recumbent bike.  However, I am currently suffering from a bulging disk between L5 & L6.  This of course has aggrevated the sciatic nerve which makes sitting nearly impossible.  I have been trying to figure out a way to keep my cardio going while I work on re-strenghtening my core and heal.  Because of the vertigo, walking is out of the question.  Even my strength training exercises are rather "ok" because of the pain.  Any ideas on how I can get myself a good workout to stop the weight gain, without hurting myself more?  Or do I just have to let time take the course?  Thank you everyone.

Hello!

Sometimes there is lumbarisation of sacral vertebra; good that you checked it with an orthopedician and confirmed it as L5 & S1.

Wear proper foot wear.
Follow proper ergonomics in daily living.
Do not worry if you are in normal BMI of less than 25.
Always adopt proper positions and sleep and sit on appropriate beds and chairs.

With above lifestyle changes and with chiropractors help with decrease in symptoms you can start mild walks on proper surfaces with proper footwear and then intensify.

Take care!

Thank you for your comments.  I was back at the doctor today.  I guess I need to make sure I take a note pad with me to visits.  I heard my primary doctor incorrectly.  The injury is between L5 & S1.  There is no such thing as L6.  Plus, it's not a bulging disk.  It is a full blown extrusion (herniation). You are both right, a pool.  I know our pool here is outside, so for now that will not work.  I am going to check out the park district for that.  Although the chiro said I should not worry about my cardio right now and part of my weight gain lately is the inflammation.

Dr Vinod - I already eat pretty healthy.  I gave up a lot of those things mentioned when perimanopause started.  Also, I do not like fried foods & eat very little red meat.  And I haven't had a soda in years.  I had to quit drinking them when I was pregnant and I just could never drink them again since.

Again thank you for your suggestions.  :-)

Hello!

The most important thing for you to do is to eat healthy and avoid all kinds of fatty food including fried food, fast food, junk food, sodas, desserts, sweets, red meat etc.

Try swimming without any exertion if possible.

Take care!
