Chest muscle

I recently injured my left side chest rib area. The doctor said that I pulled some muscles. I'am in alot of pain. Is there anything that I can do to relief some of this pain? How long does this usually last?

My 16 yr old son is an avid weight lifter going on 3 plus years.
He recently has experinced sharp pain under left nipple area of the chest.
It hurts when he breathes in and out.  No discoloration or brusing. His vitals are normal.  What type muscle or upper rib cage injury couls this be and what would required healing
time involved.  Thank you for your advice.

Hi.

What you need to do is rest the affected muscle. Ice or cold packs should be applied to the area until swelling subsides. Try to immobilize the affected muscle using compression bandages.

You could also take some anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications to help relieve the pain and swelling. Muscle relaxants would also be of benefit in your case.

Hope this helps.
