Exercising too much, missing my period

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I have a question. I missed my period for two months and a doc told me it was probably because I'm exercising a lot and I need to cut down on that and eat more. My question is, am I really exercising a "lot"? I go to the gym 3 to 5 times a week, most days for 2 hours, some for an hour. What I do is , ALWAYS 1 hour and 10 minutes of intense cardio(elliptical) and then 1 hour of weights(not that much weight though). I do have to say that I've been having difficulty on eating as much as I should. I burn, depending on what I do at the gym, either 750 calories or 1000 per day, and I consume 1000 or 1100 per day. I try, REALLY try to consume more but I'm never hungry. And I didn't care until it started affecting my period (funny how I started going to the gym 3 months ago and I've been missing it for 2 months, so this has to stop!). So , any advice as to what should I do? should i reduce my time at the gym? or should i just try to eat more? (dont know how though lol)
thankss!

At this height do not lose more weight, relax for some days and eat healthy and your period will return. Forget about exercise for couple of months. Eat healthy and do some walking, lead a stress less life, proper sleep and no smoking and drinking alcohol.

Thank you so much doctor for answering my question! My height is 5'8 and my weight is 137 lbs, 15 more pounds than last year (then again, last year I lost a lot of weight due to stress).  I've been  exercising for 3 months, for 4 or 5 times a week, each time losing either 750 calories or 1000 calories (depending if I do only cardio or cardio+weights)
Thank you again, I'll definitely do as you advised!

Your Physician's advice is absolutely good for your health. You are exercising like you are in an intense & instant fat reducing spree? You did not mention how long you have been exercising to lose 1000cals per day and your weight?
But, slow down and increase your calorie intake as you should have normally atleast 2000 calories with a balanced diet (Protein, Carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and some fat without cholesterol). I advice you to go to a professional dietician and make a diet chart on food what you like and what would be good to your body. Do mild cardio for 30 minutes daily and lose not more than 300 calories and you will be fine. If it does not work visit a Gyneaecologist. Take care!
