Rapid heart rate and hand swelling

I am 38, have been running for about 6 months, before that active in many sports.  This past week I participated in my first marathon.  It was great until mile 10, then my HR which has been in the 120-140s during long runs increased to 205.  My hands and lower arms were very swollen and I was having some trouble breathing and some chest pain.  I did stop at the medical tent my resting HR remained at 190, BP 90/40.  After 15 min HR still 160 but I was feeling much better so I tried to continue.  I ran 3 more miles, after that my chest hurt too much to continue.  I have had mild chest pain since but a normal resting rate in the 60s.  Normal pre race intake, was well hydrated, no caffiene, race temps 78.  Nothing unusual.  Assuming I had adequate training could this all be from adrenalin related to my first marathon?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

If you are absolutely sure that it wasn’t dehydration, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure), allergic reaction or cardiac ischaemia are likely possibilities. While the former ones can fairly be taken care of, I would suggest seeing a cardiologist for a treadmill test to rule out the latter possibility.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
