Everyone will tell you the same thing: a healthy diet and exercise is the healthiest way to lose weight.
I'll give you a sample diet to try:
Breakfast: 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal with a spoonful of unsweetened applesauce and cinnamon, or a handful of berries.
Lunch: A salad with grilled chicken breast and balsamic vinegar dressing or fat-free italian. Or a light Mediterranean salad makes a good alternative for vegetarians.
Dinner: Any lean meat or protein with a side of steamed veggies, and a small portion of whole grain rice or pasta.
Snack on fruit.
The main things to cut out are white flour and sugar. Natural vegetarian oils are okay in moderation like olive oil, coconut oil or nuts and seeds. Don't be discouraged if this seems like a big change compared to the diet you are used to; once you see the changes in your body and mood, you'll be hooked.
And it gets easier and easier as time goes on. Try to keep temptations out of the cupboards and if you feel a craving coming on, replace it with a healthier alternative. I put AstroZero yogurts in the freezer since my weakness is icecream. And I use stevia in my oatmeal if it isn't sweet enough.
If you aren't very active, the best way to ease yourself into it is incorporating daily walks around the block with a friend or a pet. When you no longer feel winded, increase the pace. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. You can break this up into 10 minute here and 10 minutes there on the days that your schedule is quite full.
It is best to have an incentive to lose weight so try to keep that image in your mind. I pin up pictures around me of a size I used to be and wish to reach again. I write little reminders on post-its of motivating quotes to keep me positive.
Accept that you will have tough days. If you are prepared, however, they won't be as hard to get past.
You can do this! Keep your head up high, stay focused and have fun along the way!
All the best with your surgery.

Hi, you can safely do some aerobic exercises to reduce your weight. This will not only help to reduce the weight but also strengthen your bones. As far as foods are concerned you can take foods rich in calcium like milk and milk products, green leafy vegetables. Along with this you need a balanced diet consisting of carbohydrates from a fibrous food, proteins and vitamins from fruits and cereals. All the best
