Was the water you drank really cold and/or was there a lot of it?
If the temperature was significantly lower than your body temp, then the cramps could have been caused by contractions (kinda like if you plunged your hand into ice-water you'd tense up.)
If it was a large volume of water, your nausea could have been caused by diluting your body's electrolytes.
Try taking small sips of lukewarm water (or an electrolyte-replacing sports drink) at regular intervals and see if that helps.
Hi, thanks very much for your reply, I drank a few sips of room temp. water and that was it, very strange! I'm going running again at the weekend so will do without water but I will check out the electrolyte replacing drinks, and post how I get on, cheers!
Hello,
There are some measure you can take to prevent cramps while running like Hydrate well before a run, check out your breathing patterns, short, choppy breaths aren't able to get as much oxygen to the lungs as long, controlled breaths. Try to regularize your breathing patterns so that they bring in as much oxygen as possible. Make sure that you run within your ability. If you try to run faster or longer than you are capable of, you will suffer from both leg fatigue and running cramps and do not take heavy meals just before running and take rest at least once in a week
