Hello!

The swelling of muscles in the calf can be due to present injury, past injury, peripheral artery diseases, deep vein thrombosis etc.

I would suggest you to go for appropriate scans and physical examination near an orthopedician for proper diagnosis.

If you have muscle injury you would need proper physiotherapy and rehab.

Apply ice packs and take intermittent NSAIDs.

Take care!

hi, my leg has been swollen for about 4 year now and the muscle feels weak, I think it happened when i fell , i went to hospital and they said it was sprained , i have been to the doctors several times since and they said it was muscle damage, can it still be damaged off that incident?

Hi,
How are you? In a painful swollen calf the first diagnosis to consider is deep vein thrombosis (DVT), but there are other possibilities like muscle sprain, inflammation, claudification, thrombophlebitis, restless leg syndrome etc. Sometimes even dehydration can cause pain in the calf muscles.

If the pain in is getting worse on walking then, it could be due to claudification. Claudification happens due to insufficient blood supply to the muscles, which can be caused due to spasm of the arteries or atherosclerosis of arteries.
I would suggest that you visit a physician for further assistance.
Best.
