Floaters treatment

Hello,
I am 20, having noticeble floaters for about 3 to 4 years. Although they do not represent any other problem in my case, living with them is an everyday hardship. My questions are:

1. I know, there is not a safe treatment for floaters at this time, but will there ever be one? I mean that I can hardly imagine carring on if my floaters go on getting worse as they have been doing till now. Knowing that there is a good chance of a safe treatment in (let`s say) 5 years, it would be much easier to cope with the problem.

2. The second question is quite the same. I heard about (just) 2 doctors in California (there might be some more, but still just a few), who can substantially reduce the extend of floaters by some laser operation. It does not work 100%, but at least it is said to be very little risky. Therefore I ask: why are there not any other doctors performing the operation? There are hundreds of thousands people suffering from floaters and they would give up their fortune (I would) to have them removed, so this cannot be the question of money...

Thank you very much for your help
Yours sincerely,
Michal, Czech Republic

since i did not tell the surgeon that i would post his response here, i will paraphrase what he said in my own words rather than quote him directly.  i'm not sure he wants to be quoted b/c i didnt ask him.

he basically said via email that sometimes lasers are used to "break up" floaters in very symptomatic patients like yourself into smaller less-noticable clumps, but the procedure is probably much riskier than the website above would lead you to believe, and the results are probably not as good as that link would lead you to believe.  he says the high energy to the vitreous can cause OTHER problems as well.

he believes the better treatment for very symptomatic patients *IS* a vitrectomy, as it is the only way to actually REMOVE floaters.  but you have to be careful and go to someone who is really good at it, b/c it is somewhat risky.

1) unlikely IMO to be any other treatments for floaters in the next 5 years.  not a hot topic of research at all.  in fact, i dont know of ANY research being done on it, but i could be wrong.

2) dont know about this laser option for floaters.  do you have a link?
