Doctor Hagan - I notice that you consistently direct people to WWW.AAO.ORG to find surgeons.  I just looked, and found that a doctor that had been recommended to me is not in that list.  Should I be concerned?

Turns out I was wrong.  The doctor is in the list, under a different specialty.  Thank you for your quick responses.   Karen

www.aao.org is the website of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Not all ophthalmologists are eligible for membersip. Members (Fellows they're called even the women) have successfully completed a Ophthalmology residency at an approved program and are Board Certified. They also agree to certain ethical principles that if violated can lead to being kicked out.

It's one of the best ways of determining that your Eye MD has been vetted by his/her peers.

If you live in the U.S. and you've done a search by name for that doctor and he/she does not turn up AND you've made sure that the doctor is an M.D. and NOT an O.D. then YES, that is very concerning!!!
