Amsler shows Metamorphosis - straight lines appear curved

When i close my right eye, i.e with my left eye the lines appeared slightly distorted, the squares were seen as slightly curved on the inside and smaller in size. Also with the left eye while reading, the straight text lines appeared curved (concave from below) and smaller in size.  The diagnosis given is " Amsler shows metamorphosis". During examination, doctor talked about macular edema, some cells in the subretinal area and has prescribed Prednisolone 50mg (1X3days); then 40mg (1X3days); then 20mg (1X3days); then 10mg (1X3days); to be taken orally for a total of 12 days along with Ranitidine 150mg, b.i.d. Also Prednisolone acetate eye drops to be used 4 times a day for 12 days. He had also parallely asked for blood examination for ESR, RH factor, VDRL, Blood sugar- fasting & PP and chest x-ray. My concern is regarding the prescribed treatment. Is oral steroids the only treatment. I'm not very keen on the usage of oral steroids for this. Would like to know if it is Ok to be going ahead with this treatment or you would recommend further investigations before deciding the line of treatment.

I may add, you are likly to see somtimes the symatrical design on the celling of your room or walls.Even wrtiien words.
Amsler Grid is a chart of sqares like a grph paper.Ther is one dot  in the middle. I was give this chart and asked to check up periodically by concentrating on the black dot. And if i see the lines are curved or there are bleck spots on the small squares i should imiieately go to a hospital or Retina. other doctors will not treat this disease as it involves Intravitral injections,or lazer therapy to seal neovascular region. Ask you doctor a dirct and blunt question whther you are suffering from  AjMD?

Age-Related Macular deterioration(ARMD) or called AMD.this is the retinal disorder. It can be dry or wet. IN dry one Drusen(some waste particlales foat in retina causing problem in central vision. Wet AMD is Advance AMD. Both are difficult to dignose.Please Retinal specialist. I have the sa me problem.(Dry AMD) I read with Magnifying glass as my vision cannot be corredted by glasses only.Ther is nor cure for this thing so far.visit website on the above disease. you wil fiind the ansewer.When you see distorted lines it is indicative that you are having Wet AMD.They do the tratment uneser protective Prognosis, meanign no gurentee for the result. My doctor asked me to chang my hobby or reading to something else. You will not be blind but you cannot read as cetral vision is affected. I am fighting thid situation since 3 years.Only last yerar they could dignose it as AMD..Tratment is very costly.Lot of research is going on.You must see A rtyina specialist immidiately.Please hurry. Inform me the procedure being adopted by your Drs.

Things apper curved, for example if look at at straight bar it appears as if some one has hammered it.  will you pls give me some suggestions as what can be done.

I would see a retinologist/vitreoretinal specialist. Find one @ www.aao.org, or American Academy of Opthalmologists. You can look for a doc by your area/city.

Apparently you have some form of uveitis and if so - steroids either in drop form, injection next to or in the eye, or oral pills are all possible treatment options. I don't know what treatment is right for you because I don't know your case.  If you have a qualified ophthalmologist, experienced in this field, then you probably need to follow his instruction or get a second opinion if you don't trust him.  I can't direct your care because I know nothing about your case.  Sometimes oral steroids are definitely needed - but usually only for a short time which is much safer than chronic treatment.
