First of all that is not "severe" astigmatism.  It's moderate.  Second glasses don't correct astigmatism like braces correct crooked teeth. It gives the child good vision so that the eyes can develop normally.  It would be good to know where she was examed. Least reliable would be a chain optical in the mall.   Next would be a private practice optometrist. Best option would be for her to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist.  If she did not see an Eye MD consider asking your pediatrician to refer her to one before you buy the glasses.  That problem often runs in families so if you have other children be sure the Eye MD checks them also. When she's older contact lens or refractive surgery like astigmatic lasik might be a good choice.
