Hello. I am a 39 year old male with severe myopia (contact lens prescription is -12 D in both eyes) and minor astigmatism, and I was recently diagnosed with subcapsular cataracts in both eyes which is at its early stages. Night driving is very difficult for me -- glare and starbursts are a big problem and my vision at night is very poor. I currently wear disposable soft contact lenses. I am considering surgery to remove my cataracts and get aspheric monofocal lense implants, which supposedly will eliminate my night-driving problems, and give me excellent distance vision, but require reading glasses. Is it possible or likely that my terrible night vision can be improved for the time being by wearing a gas permeable lense instead of a soft contact lense, which would enable me to put off cataract surgery for the time being?
