Double vison??????

Seeing two images, but when I close either eye the extra image disappears. Example of this would be my face, with both of my eyes open its like I have two noses, but when I close one eye the image on the opposite side of the eye that is closed disappears.  This only happens when trying to focus on something far away with an object close by ( like my nose) anything faraway is perfectly clear. Just trying to figure what I am seeing is natural or not. Thanks.

If you are trying to see something so close your eyes can't focus and converge that is normal. Google the term "physiologic diplopia" and read more.  (NOT psychological)

I think I must have this "psychological diplopia",  but when something is like half an inch away or shorter from my face is still see double of that object when I try focusing on that image, is that normal. Is it just that my eyes are unable to both focus on the same image because it is so close. Thanks.

Double vision is a symptom that requires a full exam by an Eye MD ophthalmologist. Your description might be "physiologic diplopia" which means when you focus at distance near objects will be seen double and vice versa.

Example: look out the window and pick out something far away to look like it. While doing this hold a pencil in front of you about 18 inches away. You will see two pencils. Then focus on the pencil you will see one pencil but the background far away will be double.

Hi there. I am going through the same thing.  I am not a doctor, so please don't take this as medical advice... but just one patient telling another what she knows.  You need to see the doctor.  Double vision can be caused by some very serious conditions (stroke, aneurisym, diabtes, ms, mg, etc etc) or it can be something that can be fixed with glasses.  Some medications can cause it.  SO, I would make an emergency appointment with an eye doctor (make sure you see an MD, not the type who just gives you glasses).  If they do not find anything wrong, ask for a referral to a neurologist.

I am currenlty at the neurologist stage.  No diagnosis yet.

I also suggest wearing a patch over one eye if you have to drive.

Best of luck to you!
