It means no shift to do the laser procedure he described.

What's the wholesale change? I live with floaters galore in both my eyes and it's more quality of life that's my issue.
Well realize that article was by the "inventor" of the technique. It's not a scientific paper. It was over a year ago and there has been wholesale change in how floaters are viewed by the surgical community.
I have large floaters in each eye including a huge Weiss ring in my right eye. I would not consider any of these procedures for myself.

Dr Hagan,

I agree with Dr. Hagan entirely about the FDA and I am afraid if the "new and improved" government health care take affect, things will get worse. As pertaining to eye floaters, just make sure you see an ophthalmologist to make sure no tears have resulted from a PVD (if that is what has caused them). I am 33 and myopic, and as a result I have had PVDs in both eyes ongoing for the last year, including repairs for 4 retinal tears. The main thing is to not let the floaters control your life by focusing on them all the time. Trust me anxiety makes them worse. I know that is easier said than done, but trust me that is the best remedy. I let all this ruin my life for around a year. I was worried about losing my vision because of a retinal detachment, glaucoma, and everything else that could cause vision loss. I ended up realizing that all I could do was keep my regular appointments with my retinal specialist, pray for the best, and live my life. Everyone has different hurdles in life to overcome, and good luck with yours. I just want to say thank you to Dr. Hagan and all the other professionals that spend their precious time to answer all the questions posted on this site. Even though you probably do not hear it often, it means alot.
Bad idea, fraught with risks, expenses with more floaters likely to persist or develop.

I found this article interesting Dr Hagan
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2177006/How-mini-guillotine-treatment-beats-misery-sight-blurred-floating-particles.html
Yes, but the drug is being developed and studied for use with certain types of diabetic retinopathy and traction of vitreous on the retina around holes/tears/thin areas.
It will never be practice expense and risk wise to use for the everyday floaters we get as we age. (I have multiple floaters in both eyes).
I do not know the stage of testing the drug is in. In the USA the FDA is slow, bureaucratic, dull-witted and keeps many important, even life and sight saving medications and devices out of the hands of US physicians while they are used all over the world. I don't know if the USA Food and Drug Administration is lazy, stupid or just doesn't give a damn. Probably all of those.

Dr,
You made a comment a few years ago about a drug under research to dissolve the floaters. Is there any progress on this? Thanks!
1. There is no practical cure for floaters. Most people learn to ignore them.
2. Floaters have been discussed many times here. Use the search feature and archives to read and learn more.
