Glucosamine Chondroitin and contact lenses

I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.

There is a lot on the internet about glucosamine and dry eyes. the problem is none of it is good science, evidence based medicine and almost all articles are from websites or companies that sell glucosamine.

Well, no more dry eyes, and i do not have a shellfish allergy just to rule out that hypothesis.

And Dr. Hagan, I have found plenty of accounts related to dry eyes and glucosamine supplements at this point. I feel like you may want to revisit the subject as I noticed you sounded so definite about there being no possibility the glucosamine could be responsible for the problem we encountered.

G and Ch are made from shellfish. I cannot take them because I am allergic to iodine/shellfish. My eyes become extremely dry, as does mymouth, when I have allergic reactions

You might check out this angle--if you are allergic to shellfish, you are also allergic to injected iodine. I went into shock with this,

Hey! I just started taking Glucosamine for my joint because I play soccer 3 times a week and my joints get sore.

My eyes became extremely dry and irritated. The only thing I had changed about any of my routines was that I had added Glucosamine to my intake of suppliments.

I didn't take it this weekend and noticed a big difference in the first 2 days. I am going to stay off it for now.

No glucosamine/chondroitin will not do that. I hope it does as much for your knees as mine which have been pain free for over a decade since I started taking them It took about 3 months but I went from constant pain to no pain. (I'm a runner)
