1. You comment about the frayed-washed out letters is normal and often much worse than you describe. Be grateful for that.
2. The way your eye feels is not typical but after this type of surgery the eye is often described as feeling "different"

Dear Dr Hagan
last week 24th Jan 2014 I went
to see my eye specialist for an OCT...
for my left eye
he compared the OCT done on that day
to an OCT done 5 months ago and said
the peeling of the upper layer of the retina
around the macula had progressed,
but the lower retina layer
looked to be in order with no peeling.
he said early intervention was required
to prevent any further progress of the peeling.
by early intervention he said I should have
a vitrectomy done as soon as possible and
also it would get rid of floaters.
he said it would also stop any further progression
of the peeling due to the membrane pulling
on the macula area and causing the peeling.
I have not really experienced any deterioration
in vision in my left eye except for 1 or 2 extra floaters
and text letters appearing abit washed out.
should I wait a little longer to see if my vision
stays stable, or is it time to stop the progression
of the peeling and get the vitrectomy done.
thank you for replying to my comments.
I cannot answer that question and your best bet to re-assure you would be to get a 2nd opinion from another retina specialist ophthalmologist that does that sort of surgery.

I have exactly the same. Is your condition called foveoschisis?
I have it in both eyes, asymptomatic on the right, symptoms (Exactly) like yours
in the left. The mist like floater (originally took the shape of lines in almost perfect like zebra like stripes especially in from of illuminated lights or boards) for me is stable not moving like a floater but fading away in the past 2 weeks.
I was also suggested surgery and waiting (which is what I am doing now) through a second operation as this is my good eye, the other is lazy and if something went wrong with the operation it would be a disaster.
The danger is that your retina could be detached or torn during the waiting or nothing could happen for a very long time or ever.
yes the eye specialist said it is called macula schisis...
it is when the eyeball stretches or gets longer in shape
and it stretches the retina and makes it thinner.
the scar tissue that forms over the macula area of the
retina causes the vision to be distorted and pulls on the
macula area of the retina and this pulling causes the upper
retina layer to split from the layer below.
yes the eye specialist said it can be asymptomatic for years
and not give any problems.
