Glasses use after first eye

My mom just had her first eye done. The Dr. told her to wear her glasses as usual until the second eye is done. But on her post op visit, she couldn't even read the first line on the chart (the great BIG letters!) with the operative eye using her glasses. Her vision is much improved with out the glasses (as expected). The Dr. said it was perfectly OK to still use the glasses lens on the corrected eye. (He even stated that you only need one good eye to be legal to drive in the state of Texas!) When my dad had his eyes done, the doc automatically put a blank (uncorrected) lens in his glasses until the other eye was done. That only makes sense...otherwise it's like a perfect sighted person putting on someone else's glasses...it makes you woosy and gives you a headache!! Besides, wouldn't you want the operative eye to get used to the improved vision on it's own before getting a new RX?

Ultimately, I popped her lens out of the glasses. But, still the doc was adamant, even arrogant, when questioned that the glasses were OK, even when acknowledging the worsened vision with them!

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks,

pita

Patients do it both ways, which ever is most comfortable. Some do better with old glasse left in others with it removed and no lens at all or clear lens.
