I see the edge of the lens or the rings also now have astigmatism

I have never been so disappointed, angry, sad or felt so betrayed in my life! I have just had Cataract surgery and my vision is worse than before I had the surgery. I now have astigmatism and see a black curved line on the right edge of my line of vision. Check out the illustration I made of what I now see.

My doctor tells me this will all go away in time. REALLY? I think the only thing that will go away in time is the statute of limitations. No where in any literature, on the DVD or from my doctor were any of these side effects EVER MENTIONED!

The lens is a ReSTOR lens. Is there any help for me? I am a commercial artist and this is now affecting my ability to make a living.

Sorry--I meant negative dysphotopsia.  You can read lots more about it by search this site or by googling the term.

You're not alone in coping with negative photopsia, which is what the problem you have is called.  Try typing "photopsia" in the search box in the upper right corner of your monitor.

I think that the conventional wisdom is that the visual symptoms will diminish over time with neuroadaptation in most cases.  Few surgeons would recommend an IOL exchange at this point in time.  I'm not an eye care professional and, frankly, I think ReStor was a very poor choice for a commercial artist in the first place.  It is associated with too many problems producing bad/distorted vision.  In your place, I'd start looking for a surgeon who is experienced in explanting and replacing IOLs.  You could find one by referral or by calling the doctors listed in Castle-Connolly (www castleconnolly com).  A silicone aspheric monofocal lens might be a better choice for you.  Best of luck.
