Be sure the doctor knows of your reading near problems, your concern about latent hyperopia and talk to the doctor before the tech puts any drops in your eyes. JCH MD
Glad it went well. All your near work should be much easier since your eyes will not have to do the extra work correcting the latent hyperopia.
Hello Dr. Hagan! My eye exam went very well. I went to a different doctor because I was recommended by a friend to go have an appointment with him. Before the test I was placed in front of an autorefractor to get a pre reeding and I had a glaucoma test which I am grateful I don't have it. I told hi my concerns with latent hyperopia, and he placed the dilating eye drops into my eyes. Before he refracted me, he had me took a t near card and trace the movement of two triangles through a phoroptor. He said after the exam that test was for binocular dysfunction because of my double vision symptoms, and I do not have any eye teaming problems. I was talking to a friend of my mom who is an ophthalmologist tech, and she said I could have something like convergence insufficieny, but I do not. After that test when the drop took full effect, he had me look at projected lenses across the room. He flipped through the lenses and asked me what I saw best out of. He told me after the phoropter refraction that my left eye was at a +3.5 although he would not give that to me in full at first and I am not sure about my right eye.He had me go to another room to an autorefractor. He also told me that I have a little bit of astigmatism too where my other doctor said I did not. I had my prescription filled and he gave me. OD: +1.75 sph -.5 cyl axis 130 OS: +2.75 sph -.5 cyl axis 49. My old glasses where OD: +1.25 sph OS: +2.00 sph and before that they were OD: +.75 sph OS: +1.50 sph. My old doctor did a cycloplegic refraction, and he found an addition of +1.50 for my right eye and +2.25 for my left eye. My doctor also prescribed my eye drops and ointment for dry eye. I was without my glasses for a week, and it was a struggle especially at school. I just got them today, and I am very happy. I will be seeing my new doctor in 2 weeks for a follow up. Thank you so much for your help, if It was not for your help, I probably would not have gone!
I have an eye exam scheduled for tomorrow. I will definitely ask the doctor about a push plus and cycloplegic refraction. Thank you so much for your help. I will tell you the result of my exam after it happens.
Yes Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you also Harisonford234.
Thank You Dr. Hagan! have a good Christmas
Yes, presbyopia for most people becomes symptomatic age 40-45. For hyperopes sooner. Myopic people often start removing their glasses to read.
With modern no line progressive lens its not possible to tell if someone has single vision or multivision lens

Makes sense. If the doctor has me wear bifocals, would I eventually not have to wear them until I become presbyopic in the future? Thank you
It's a technique of refracting where you make the glasses too strong then slowly reduce the power to where the person sees "barely" 20/20 or 20/25. It tells the opthalmologist or optometrist how much he/she can make the glasses stronger for the eye to accept stronger glasses. After a farsighted person wears the glasses for a week or two the focus muscle usually relaxes, the glasses seem clear and the eye has less work to do correcting the latent hyperopia

How would the "push plus" work?
If you are still symptomatic your eye doctor may need to "push plus" (make the glasses stronger to help you accept more of your correction or go to bifocals. JCH MD
Thank you very much for your comment. I currently wear glasses to correct for the Hyperopia my doctor found. I am 16 years old.
Once that is down you may need glasses possibly even bifocals.
It is sometimes difficult for the young eye to "accept" all the hyperopic correction so often 30-40% might be corrected then after several months of wearing if still symptomatic the glasses might be strengthened another 20%.
