OCULAR MIGRAINES

my girlfriend was told she had increased pressure in her eyes, she is to see a glaucoma specialist in a couple weeks. my question is, she has been having pulsating purple "migraines" in her peripheral vision. shes had them for two years, more noticable now, and now her dr tells her she might have glaucoma. i'm wondering if theres a chance that pressure on the opyic nerve, or any pressure in the eyes could play a role in these migraines? she has them all the time, less when in a dimly lit room.  thank you

I believe you will need to wait till she's seen at Wills Eye Hospital. I cannot make an intelligent suggestion in her case.

hello, wanted another opinion from you, as in earlier posts . it concerns my girlfriend, who,on her last visit with her optho, was told she may have glaucoma and we are waiting for 6/5/08 to see specialist at wills eye hosp. in philadelphia. of course i didnt tell you her medical history and i'm not about to, it would be rude to fill up a page for you to read, but in a very condensed manner, she does have poor  eyesight, wears contact lens for ,oh, more than 30 years. she takes phenytek (a concentrated version of dilantin) , coumadin, zocor, and was given metropolol for her ocular migraines. she complains also of cloudy vision. she is 48 years old.some days her vision can be clear as a bell.and her eyes are very sensitive ti light. she says whenever she looks out the window on a sunny day. it looks "white".  she was also told she has little cataracts in each eye, but the dr said no big deal they shouldnt be  a problem for now. she does have pain when she touches her eyes (when theyre closed of course), but not behind the eye, they do look irritated to me when i put eye drops in her eyes at night, (soothe).....she said withput the cloudiness and migraines she would be in good shape. given these facts sir, and i know its on the internet and you probly need to see her for yourself, is there any logical explanation for the cloudy vision ?   from the medication perhaps?
i do apoligize for taking so much space, but i know it helps if you know certain things,    thanks again,   john in PA

glaucoma does not cause optic neuritis.  the reverse of that is also true.

Normally early glaucoma with IOP about 26 will not cause blurred or fuzz or poor vision.  Look for other causes.

thank you again sir, but i think you may have misunderstood the question, she was diagnosed with glaucoma...the opth. she saw said the pressure in her eye, from a test he gave her for glaucoma, was high, i think 26 in one eye 25.50  in the other, i dont know what those numbers mean., i'm sorry....but i digress, could the "pressure"  in her eyes , from glaucoma, cause visual disturbances such as blurriness , fuzziness, poor vision in general? and, if she took medication to relieve the pressure, would it make her vision at least a little better?   thanks again,  john

Most forms of glaucoma and most eye disese does not cause pressure around the eye. Pressure around the eye is often sinus problems and tension/stress/anxiety.

You need a diagnosis first.

thanks for your quick reply,  do you think this pressure in her eyes could cause vision problems, blurriness, fuzziness?  do you think if she had medication to decrease the pressure her vision might improve a little?

It is more likely these are two different problems. When she sees the glaucoma specialist she needs to tell him/her about the episodes of pulsating purple migraines. Other things besides migraines can cause that and need to be excluded.
