PVD & Cataract Surgery

I am 75 yrs old and yesterday was diagnosed as having PVD in the left eye.  This eye is scheduled for Cataract Surgery next month.  What should my Doctor be careful about to avoid further sight degradation?

We are involved in the training of physicians at VA hospitals and the quality of the care is excellent. Many VA hospitals are affiliated with medical schools and the staff have appointments there.

I am a veteran also.

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to select Doctors...I must utilize the services of my local VA Medical Center.  Veterans using the VA MC's must manage their health care or risk becoming one of the many horror stories about VA care that seem to perpetuate.
Some are true...

If your doctor is a good ophthalmologist he'll know without me telling him.

I am not a doctor. I am a community leader here and an experienced eye patient.

Please talk with your surgeon. PVD is a normal process but can be a challenge to vision for some. Talk with your cataract surgeon about any risks. If he is concerned about retina detachment, see a retina specialist for advice.

You are so correct to proceed cautiously.
Dr. Hagan will review your question soon.
