ReZoom Blurriness

ReZoom lens implant this week has left me extremely blurry. Isn't it logical that the doctor should give me corrective lenses until I can have an exchange in 6-8 weeks? I am severely impaired -- can't drive or do office work. Isn't this reasonable? I think they may give me a hard time.

If your target was -.75 and your vision is 20/40 in your affected eye, it sounds like your surgeon may have hit a bull's eye.  Hope you can now put this all behind you.

I received your note and tried to reply but exceeeded the word limit. I will try again.but in the meantime searched the forum as you suggested.
I had my Restor lens explanted yesterday at MASS Eye and Ear and replaced with a AcyrSof Toric Monofocal IOL targeted for -.75 (mid to distance) in my non dominant eye. I have a natural eye that is -8.0 (read my previous posts on my journey with Restor).
I have nothing but praise and admiration for MEEI. They have been ranked as one of the top ten best hospitals in the world for eyes.
My explant was done after six months (because it took me that long to get all of the second opinions and weigh my risks and options) Clearly the longer you wait the harder to explant (my surgeon could not gaurentee me once he started he would be able to complete the explant and new IOL)  As others have already commented it has to do with the lens settling in, forming scar tissue, sticking to the capsule etc. Fortunately all went well. So even after six months a good and safe result is possible, but it is preferable by far to do it sooner.
I was also unable to wear corrective glasses (and probably still can't unless it is over the contact that I wear for distance in my natural, non IOL eye). I was able however to wear a contact on each of my eyes to help mitigate the problems I had with double vision, halos, ghosting, moderate far sightedness) The corrections were not adequate for me not to explant but did help in the meantime.
Today after 24 hours my vision is 20/40 in my new eye which is still somewhat swollen and dialated casusing some bluriness. All of the other problems are gone. So there should be more improovement.
Best Wishes to you at MEEI, the are the best!

That doesn't sound right to me at all.  As Dr. Hagan stated above, with the passage of time adhesions develop which make the IOL more difficult to remove.  Why is the surgeon delaying the explant for 5 weeks?  Yes, definitely get another opinion.

No I have gone as far as I can go in this type of forum.

Get another opinion.

The surgeon is replacing the horrible ReZoom with Toric on February 4. That would be 5 weeks. Does that sound about right? Can you suggest anything to mitigate the horrible bluriness? I'm not sure I can stand this for another month -- can't drive, barely work -- bluriness is like someone smeared liquid over my eye.

I think surgeon's should follow their own patients post operatively and not a referring optometrist or a optom employed by the ophthalmologist.

I don't think that the optometrist at the surgeon's office knew what s/he was talking about when telling you to wait 6-8 weeks.  As Dr. Hagen stated above, it's better to do an explant sooner rather than later.  I'm glad to know that you have a second opinion scheduled on Monday.  Keep us posted on how things go.

If a decision has been made to explant the ReZoom I don't see why the surgeon is waiting as with time adhesions develop between the IOL and the lens capsule making it more difficult to remove.

Jodie -- The optometrist at the surgeon's office said 6-8 weeks to heal and then ready to explant. I have a second opinion at Mass Eye and Ear Monday. That's where they did the amazingly awesome Toric in the other eye in October that I wish to God I stayed with for the other eye. Stupid me was sold a bill of goods, I think, that with ReZoom I would not need glasses at all. I wish I had found this board prior to. I'll have to beg for mercy for the surgeon there to take me back, take out the ReZoom and Toric me up..........

Unfortunately, your ReZoom vision may not be correctible with glasses.  Why do you believe that you must wait 6-8 weeks to explant the ReZoom?  I've heard about explants being performed within days of surgery.  Doing it sooner is supposed to be better than later.

You would need to discuss that with the surgeon. Use the search feature and archives to read about all the problems with the ReZoom.
