Red swelling under left eye

Over the last couple of days I've developed a red puffy area on my left cheekbone, not in the eye itself but below it. I wasn't sure it was swollen (puffy) until tonight when I noticed how the "normal" dark circle under that eye is way lower than the other side, and the slight red spot spread quite a bit today.

I thought I had just scratched it (it felt like it, a slight burning to the touch) or maybe a bit of sand got into a pore when my 3-year-old grandson threw sand in my face (!!) two days ago.

This wouldn't be any threat to my eye, would it?

Thanks for any help,

Nancy T.

Not at all likely a threat to your eye unless the skins becomes tense, red, tender to touch and you are feverish. That could be the symptoms of cellulitis.  You might try warm compresses, and careful observation
