MS patient: Does Optic Neuritis = eye issues forever?

I have been recently (Dec. '07) diagnosed with MS (I still could be a NMO patient but the next spinal attack will define that).  I had an attack of Optic Neuritis in my left eye in Oct. '07.  Ever since then I have had eye issues that include: random eye pain in both or either eye, occasional extremely dry red eyes in both eyes after taking a short nap or after a nights sleep, & random blurry vision in one or both eyes.  I just recently feel asleep with my contacts in and woke up with my eyes encased in yellowish-greenish discharge and the eyes completely red as they usually are after I sleep.  I do not have excessive clear discharge or swollen eyes.

My eyes feel fine now that I am awake but I am wondering if having an episode of optic neuritis has now cursed me to have eye issues for the rest of my life?  Should I go see an ophthalmologist for further care and advice?  Thank you in advance for your time.

MS and NMO may cause eye problems that last for decades. Some of your problems likely relate to wearing contacts. Yes you should be under the care of a Eye MD.
