What can cause vision of artifacts?

I had cataract surgery for both eyes pretty much exactly 10 years ago. I noticed, starting about a month ago, that I had problems watching TV - affects only the right eye. I see wavering images to right and the bottom of the screen in light colors on top of what is already there - mostly white and light blue when these colors are on the screen. In other words the natural colors in that area assume a light white or blue hue with the left border about six inches from the screen pretty well defined less so on the bottom flickering all the time when the picture changes. This also effects my reading. When I stare directly on the text, not moving my eyes at all, it is ok, but when I continue reading it gets blurry. I am also taking eye drops for Glaucoma, last check showed an IOP of 15 mm in both eyes. Is it possible that the lens is moving in the bag independent of the eye after all these years? How is the lens supported in the bag anyway?

After the Ophthamologist looked into my eyes, he told me that both of my IOL's were moving in the membrane, the right more than the left, and that's why I have the visual distortions. He did laser surgery to open the hole in the back of the membrane on the right eye as far as he could which improved the situation somewhat, but didn't solve the problem. He suggested surgery, but also told me to wait and see if it becomes worse. He said, "I am not going to mess with a 20/20 eye, have it checked every three months" Is this the right approach?

Do a yag laser capsulotomy would not help IOL movement and could make it worse. I would suggest you get a second opinion from a different cataract/IOL surgeon.

I think it highly unlikely the IOL is moving. The IOL is in the capsular bag and the bag is held in place by small ligaments (zonules). There are numerous causes of the problem you describe. One common is the capsular bag turning cloudy (not the IOL). I suggest you see your eye MD surgeon to evaluate the possible causes and treatments.
