What causes a eye muscle to pull?

And how can you stop it from happening, its so painful.
Constant tears and weeping.. it scares me.
I think it may be from dehydration but I am not totally sure, maybe stress and poor sleep.

Eye muscles to not cramp up like leg muscles (Charlie Horse). You should consider seeing an neuroophthalmologist for a disgnaostic work up. Find one near you at www.aao.org

I think your presenting understanding of your problem is likely in error.

Thank you for your quick reply..
I was offline to spare any further strain on my eye.

What happens to me is, I am sleeping and my eyes are closed and when I wake up, I try to open my eyes and they are stuck shut..and if I try to open it to fast, usually my left eye will pull near the top part of it, like a muscle pulling. And they the sharp pain starts and the constant weepy to protect my eye, I think..and the redness and the inability to look into any bright light.
THis usually lasts a few days 1-3 and then it goes away.
It happens during high fevers, (colds etc) and sometimes during stressful times and not much sleep..
I don't know anyone else whos ever had this happen to them, and I disccused with my family dr on a few occasions after the fact and all I got was drops and a patch *sighs* He said I was straining my eye.. But how can I strain it, I am asleep?

I think you should listen to JCH - 2 mornings ago when it was still pitch black, horses were out in the road and ran into our sons car. He swerved just in time as not to hit them head on, but one of the horses shatter the drivers window and he was sprayed with horse flesh, and fine glass was everywhere in his, ears, head, shoulders, back.  He expressed pain in his left eye.  We quickly took him into an opothmologist (sorry abt.sp.)  They could not find glass, but the cornea had 3 scratches that he said would heal in a few days. But yesterday his eye was so red, this morning he had sharp stabbing pain that hurt his whole left side of his head and so back into the Dr. he went.  He is on prescription eye drops and the Dr. feels confident that by Sunday it will be gone.  He said the eye muscle was very red and swollen.  Bright lights hurts him, and sometimes it just comes on quickly.  You really should go in!

Jasmine 205 your symptoms could also be "recurrent corneal erosions" use the search feature and read about that then look at the section on emedicine.

Hi. I know this is an old thread but I'm looking for an explanation on what's going on with my eyes. For some reason their is some pressure above both of my eyes that causes a considerable amount of pain if I look any direction other than just straight ahead. This has been going on for two days, and it has caused me to feel absolutely terrible, and even light-headed. Is this likely an eye strain or is there something else that could cause this symptom?

I recently had a battle with nasopharyngeal (sp?) cancer back in 2009. In 2011, I got pregnant with my first child. During my pregnacy, my right eye began to pull to the right causing double vision. I went to any eye doctor who advises that a nerve had been damaged by the radiation I received during my cancer treatments 2 years prior. The Dr. said the damage causes my eye to have mini seizures.  It doesn't last long and i can control it by closing that eye rubbing it out. The doctor prescribed my a seizure medication however a side effect is that it may cause blood clots. I experienced a blood clot in my leg during my cancer treatments and do not wish to experience thats again. With that, i have not taking the medication. What other options do i have as this continues with no treatment?
