blind after bypass surgery

Has anyone ever heard of someone waking up after major bypass surgery completley blind?  This happened to my father 12 days ago and he still cant see anything.  The doctors here are stumped and the only thing they can come up with is he has ishmethic optic neaurpothy.  Just wondering if anyone has had or heard of this happening and if there is anything we can do.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.  Although they admit they dont know...they seemed to rule out the stroke.  He is perfectly normal and doing really well except he sees no light in both eyes.  He was seen by an optomalogist and he says his eyes are fine.  He looks around as if he can see.  The mri showed nothing wrong.

thanks

It is most likely a cerebral stroke if in both eyes.  Ischemic optic neuropathy is a possibility of only in one eye.
