continuation of cyclopentolate hydrochloride drops

I saw an optometrist yesterday, but before going I put cyclopentolate hydro drops in my eyes 3 times a day & also pred forte drops every 2 hrs until  my apt the next day.  He  couldn't get my eyes to dilate (enough, he said), but diagnosed me with iridocyclitis.  He is referring me to an ophthalmologist.  The ophthalmologist apt is 4 days away.  Why would the optometrist tell me to continue taking the cyclopentolate  drops until I see the ophthalmologist.  Aren't they just to dilate my eyes?

Yes, the latter is a form of the former.

I have been diagnosed with iridocylitis.   Is iritis/uveitis the same as iridocylitis?

   Thank You

No they are used to treat the iritis and prevent the iris from scarring to the lens of the eye. Call the ophthalmologist and see if you can get in ASAP as this is a serious problem.

Ask the Eye MD about Durezol a new steroid drop that works fantastically well for iritis/uveitis.
