I would say total occlusion for 4 to 5 hours a day and while the good eye is patched have your son do some type of near tasks. A book of mazes or even coloring just to try to stimulate hypermetropic eye any way possible. These problems have much better prognosis durring the critical period but I have read many stuides that there is no age limiting to the critical good. Best of luck.

Amblyopia or a "lazy eye" is a condition in which the image formed by an eye is not recognized by the brain. Patching (or occlusion) therapy, atropine eyedrops, and/or glasses may be recommended and I would suggest that he see an eyeMD who treats children. Surgery will not cure the amblyopia. The age in which these therapies are begun may alter the ultimate outcome so I would definitely have your brother see an expert in this area.
