In the past, I had worn soft contact lenses for twenty years. Always had a bit of dry eye to deal with. But for the most part, if I was compliant with using lubricating drops, I could wear them for sports, etc. Anyway, I recently tried my first silicone hydrogel soft toric lens, air optix, and ended up with a red ring around one of my irises after approximately 4 hours of wear time. And my entire eye in both eyes appeared to be nearly having pink eye symptoms. When I removed the lenses, my eyes burned even more. The next day, my eyes were still irritated, so I have not worn the new lenses since. The eye that had the red ring felt like there was something in my eye/foreign body sensation during the last couple hours of wear. I put more drops in, but couldn't see anything like an eyelash. I have heard this reaction is not an "allergy", but possibly causing extreme dry eye in my case. The fitter had ordered me a slightly different prescription, which was not in stock at the time, so could the fact that the prescription was off caused my eyes to react the way they did?
