Micropsia Causes Affected Individuals To Perceive Objects As Being Smaller Or More Distant Than They Actually Are.
The Majority Of Individuals With Micropsia Are Aware That Their Perceptions Do Not Mimic Reality. Many Can Imagine The Actual Sizes Of Objects And Distances Between Objects. It Is Common For Patients Suffering From Micropsia To Be Able To Indicate True Size And Distance Despite Their Inability To Perceive Objects As They Actually Are. One Specific Patient Was Able To Indicate The Dimensions Of Specific Objects With Her Hands. She Was Also Able To Estimate The Distances Between Two Objects And Between An Object And Herself.
I have micropsia in one eye caused by an epiretinal membrane. Images in that eye appear smaller and color is less saturated. My central vision doesn’t fuse. Prisms don’t help and the ERM is too mild for surgical correction. The simple solution is a small piece of Scotch Gift Wrap tape on my glasses. It fogs the central vision in that eye and forces me to use peripheral vision which does fuse. My condition is called Dragged Fovea Diplopia. Micropsia means things look smaller than they should. The most common cause that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lens is macular disease. If you have an IOL in one eye but not the other eye you may have aneisometrophia which is unequal refractive error which can causes images to be of two different sizes. What does your ophthalmologist say is the cause?
