What is pregnancy reduction?

We have been trying to conceive for several years and have been using several different methods.  Recently one of the terms brought to my attention was "pregnancy reduction" where a woman can choose the number of embryos she wishes to keep.  Has anyone heard of this or had to deal with this issue on a personal level?  Getting pregnant for us would be a dream, but there is always a chance of having multiples over three, so trying to think of this in advance.  Thanks for anyone's experience on this in advance.

Thank you so much for your response, I know it's such a hard decision.  I'm afraid of course because we want a child so bad, but then at the same time I have to think of my own health and being able to make it through the pregnancy with multiples.  When the doctor told me of the possibility with IVF and our options I definitely wanted to look into them so we knew what we were going to be getting into.

A friend of my mom's did selctive reduction when she was pregnant with 5 babies - she reduced down to 3. She did IVF and had 5 embies implanted and all 5 took.

It is a hard decision to make, I would think. But going in knowing what you would be OK with, is a good step.

For me, IVF was our next step and dh and I had discussed how many to implant (after seeing how many were viable to implant).  IUI worked for us and the chance of multiple pg for our tries with IUI was very low since we never had more than 3 good follies.
