high hcg levels and no fetal pole. HELP!

My boyfriend and I have been trying to get pregnant. my last period was October 9th. From a website I found I should have ovulated on the 23. I took a pregnancy test on November 3rd and it was positive. I went to the doctor on the 5th and they couldn't see anything, so they sent me for blood work. My first hcg level was on November 5th which read 410. I had one 2 days later on the 9th which read 1409 then the following monday which was 3509.  I went back to the doctor and they did another ultra sound. they saw a gestational sac with a little white dot in the top corner. So I was told to come back the following week. I went in this past monday and had another ultra sound. All they could see this time was a Gestational sac with a yolk sac but no fetal pole. I went and had another ultra sound to rule out ectopic pregnancy, which all was well. No problems there. But I was told to have some more blood work done and the results are freaking me out. They were 27,219. Is this extremely high for no fetal pole???  The doctors are thinking I'm around 5 weeks. I'm just frazzled, if anyone can shed some light on this situation it would really help me out. Every one thinks I'm having twins. but it's hard to get my hopes up with a hcg level that high and no fetal pole.

Any similar stories or situations would really help.

I went in on monday the 9th and they saw the gestational sac and the yolk sac which was the same day i had my beta hcg test done. The week before they could only see a gestational sac with a small white dot. it just freaks me out. every time i go in, i think i'm going to see more, and it's always a let down.

I agree with Heather5; if you are correct in calculation, then today you are only about 5w5d and usually they cannot see anything until about 6w and they don't expect to see the heartbeat until about 7w - give or take a few days.  Most doctors won't schedule the first appointment until 6 or 7 weeks or after because they usually can't see anything yet.  Based on your numbers everything sounds great!  Be happy, relax, and enjoy!  I bet next week you'll be able to see more on the sonogram!  Good luck with everything and keep us posted on how it all goes!  Stay positive!

I'm not sure about the levels and how they correspond to how far along you are...but if your doctor's right and you're only 5 weeks, then it's too early to see the fetal pole. It's usually is not visible until sometime during the 6th week (which is also when the heartbeat normally shows up on an ultrasound). However, I'm a little confused about how long it has been since they were first able to see the sac. Was that on the 9th when you had your last beta or later?
