Don't give up

I just wanted to give some hope to many of you who are struggling to fall pregnant - whether for the first time or not.  I hope I don't offend anyone - that is not my intention.  I just want to tell you not to give up hope.

I struggled for 7 years before falling pregnant naturally with my son after being diagnosed with Stage 1 ovarian cancer and having only 1 ovary.  I really had given up and was shocked when I fell pregnant.  I had a textbook pregnancy and birth and have a wonderful 2.5 year old now.

As much as we wanted another child we were so thrilled and blessed to have Adam that we swore we would not allow ourselves to get depressed again about trying for a second child.  Easier said than done as I'm sure you all know, but we carried on trying anyway and hoped for the best, although I think neither one of us really believed we'd ever have another child.

I have been advised to have a hysterectomy due to my cancer risk and the fact that I've had to have a few more surgeries to removed persistent cysts and that is where our minds have been - preparing for the hysterectomy early next year.

I have just discovered that I am 5 weeks pregnant - totally shcoked again but of course, thrilled.  It is still early days and I hope I'm not jinxing it by posting here, but I really fell pregnant this time.  I am already struggling with terrible nausea, so hopefully that is a good sign.

I just wanted to give some of you hope - I know what its like to watch everyone aound you falling pregnant and being told to "just relax and you'll fall pregnant".  Nobody can understand what it is like unless they've been throuh it - it consumes us and can do some serious damage to our marriages.  But I think what I've learnt is that no matter what we do each month, it is really not in our hands - who knows who decides if and when we will become parents.

Good luck to everyone.  You are all in my thoughts.

Leigh

Thanks ladies.

Just an update - I had an ultrasound at 5w2d and there are 2 sacs - 1 is perfect in size for the dates and the other is a bit smaller.  It's still too early to tell if it's going to be twins or not, but its just further proof that anything can happen and we definitely have no control as to what and when!

Just keep believing!
