My ob and re also thought it was a good idea to get the flu shot. I was so scared of miscarriage that I put it off for a week to think about it. I have several autoimmune disorders so my immune system is already not as strong, so my docs finaly convinced me that the flu shot would be better than catching the flu later on.Anyway I got the shot at only 8 weeks. I am 13 weeks now and everything looks perfect. Maybe this might help :)
I talked with my doctor and she said that they do have the dosage available that does not contain the mercury preservative. That made me feel a whole lot better! I've never had one before either.
My OB is recommending it too so I voted "Yes" on here. I haven't read any conflicting reports but have read probably 2-3 articles advising to have one done. I haven't had mine yet but I am at 27 weeks and they advised to probably get one here in October. I've never had one before because I rarely get sick anyway so I'm not 100% sure I'll get one. Good food for thought though!
Thanks for the responses, ladies. I've done research online and the results are so conflicting. My RE and OB both recommed it but I'm just not sold on it yet.
i have to agree with super_sally its going to be up to you in the end. i personally i wouldn't do it. but weigh up your options and see what you deiced after reading up.
When pregnant it is recommended not to put any medicines or foreign substances in your body unless absolutely necessary. The flu shot is designed to trigger your immune system to act, but in pregnancy your immune system is naturally supressed and it may not always be wise to artificially trigger it. The flu shot also contains contaminants and preservatives.
Read up on it! There are also other ways to stay healthy! My personal opinion.
H1N1 shot has been associated with higher risk of miscarriage. However, it is up to you and your best judgement.
Not sure if I recommend it, but my Gyno told me to get one this morning for sure...having the flu is much more potentially damaging in her opinion.
